Patricia Margaret “Marg” Radcliffe, born on February 14, 1942, in London, England, passed away peacefully at her home in Lake Cowichan, British Columbia, surrounded by family on her 84th birthday, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Marg was predeceased by her parents, Betty and Bill Budd, and her sisters, Barbara and Susan. She is survived by her sister Sheila (Denny). Her memory lives on through her daughter Terri; her sons Reid (Sherry, and her sister Tracy) and Wade (Cami); and her grandchildren Trisha, Myles, Sterling, Brayden, Ethan, and Hailey. Extended family members, friends, and teammates will forever cherish their memories of Marg.
Many in the Cowichan Valley will remember Marg as the “coffee lady,” a title earned over more than 40 years of delivering coffee and supplies to local businesses. She was also a trusted and dedicated tax preparer, supporting clients throughout the Cowichan Valley and beyond every tax season. Her strong work ethic was well known, and she would have continued working this year if cancer had not interrupted her plans.
Marg was also fondly known as the “track lady,” a reflection of the countless hours she spent at the track over the years. A passionate sports enthusiast, she played basketball, squash, pickleball, and more—but track and field and softball were her greatest joys in recent years. Marg was inducted into the Lake Cowichan Sports Wall of Fame in June 2015. She will also be honoured posthumously by the Masters Track and Field Hall of Fame in March 2026, where she holds records in both the javelin and the 4 x 100 relay.
To her family, Mom was vibrant, smart, funny, and endlessly capable. She loved her family, her community, and every sport she could play or cheer for. Adventurous at heart, she embraced travel and made friends wherever she went—often combining her love of sports with her love of exploring the world.
Her family will always remember her readiness for fun: joining in silly Christmas games, cheering at Blue Jays games, skydiving at 72, attending concerts well into her 80s, and travelling whenever she could. You could always count on Mom to be in the stands, cheering loudly for family and friends. Her radiant smile was a gift she shared freely. She will be missed fiercely.
Marg made one final request: Please do not be sad.
All are invited to celebrate her life and share memories on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception at H.W. Wallace. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cowichan Sportsplex.

Sincere condolences to Marg’s family. I’m trying to not be sad as I reflect on all the fond memories I had with Marg during our softball adventures. We have belly laughed, danced and worn silly costumes across the many miles of our travels. As I told you in our last conversation, my life would never have been the same without you. Marg was my friend, team mate and travel companion for 40 years. I met her on the squash court then on the ball fields. We played slow pitch together at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah for 21 years. Our team won a medal 17 out of those 21 years. Marg also did track and field and earned MANY medals. During our friendship we had many adventures to Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and twice to Jamaica. Marg would find us the best deals so we could go watch our Blue Jays in Seattle. Our next adventure was to see them in Toronto but sadly we didnt make it there, but I am sure she will be watching.
In our 40 years of adventures we had lots of fun in the sun, floating on our air mattresses and getting our tan on the ocean or in the pool. She was a great friend to me and I miss her already. During our hour or so long phone conversation before she passed we spoke of her saying HI to my husband Ron and everyone we know up there and I am sure she will put together a great ball team. And lastly for her to come visit me and leaving me some sign or souvenir of her visit. My condolences to all her family, she will always be in my thoughts……

Marg Radcliffe participated in her first track and field meet at the 1997 New Westminster BC Seniors Games where she competed in three individual events, winning gold in the 100m and long jump. She added two silvers in the relays. This was the start of her 29 years of Masters athletics competition, a career which included not only meets in British Columbia and Canada, but also meets in the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean and South America.
From 1997 to 2025, Marg seldom missed competing at the BC Seniors Games (renamed as the 55+ BC Games in 2015). Marg often competed in the maximum 8 events allowed, usually winning medals in every event she entered. For example, at the 2001 Games in Surrey, Marg won 4 golds and 2 silvers in the six events she competed in. And at the 2015 Games in Burnaby, she won 6 gold medals. Marg was probably more successful at other BC Seniors Games (all of the results not checked).
Marg competed in many BC and Canadian Masters Athletics Championships and won multiple medals at each championships. She recalled competing at the Canadian championships at Sherbrooke, Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Toronto (twice), Surrey, Richmond and Langley.
Marg also competed at the World Masters Athletics Championships at Gateshead, Brisbane, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, Sacramento and Kamloops. Twice she won multiple medals at these world championships, winning two bonzes at Brisbane (2001), gold (javelin) and silver at Puerto Rico (2003), gold (javelin) and bronze at Kamloops (2010) and two bronzes at her last WMA championships at Brazil (2013). She also won gold in the javelin at Italy (2007).
Marg’s best event was the javelin, where she broke the Canadian records in the W55, W60, W65 and W70 age groups. She broke the BC javelin records in all of the age groups from W55 to W80. When asked how she was able to throw the javelin so far she said, “I didn’t know how to throw the javelin, I just threw it” Yes, she did and very far. Her W60 javelin record still stands today more than twenty years after she, at the age of 61, threw the 400gm javelin 34.47 metres.
But Marg excelled in more events than just the javelin. She also jumped well and ran fast. Marg broke Canadian long jump records in the W55 age group at the BC Masters Championships and in the W60 age group at the Canadian Masters Championships in Toronto. Marg also tied the Canadian W55 high jump record and broke the Canadian W60 high jump record. Asked about her high jump record she said, “I don’t know how I got my butt so high off the ground”.
On the track, Marg competed mainly in the short sprints. At Eugene, at the age of 61, she joined three younger women to run the 4x100m relay where they broke the Canadian W50 record. In 2003, at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Carolina, Puerto Rico, she ran for the Canadian relay team which won the silver medal and broke the Canadian record in the W60 4x400m. Then at the age of 79, Marg ran on a 4x100m team that broke the Canadian W75 relay record.
Track and Field was not Marg’s only sport. In high school she played basketball for the Lake Cowichan High School girls team. She started playing softball (fastball) at age 28 and continued playing into her fifties, mainly playing as a catcher. She played for the Victoria Clippers 35+ team which won six consecutive Western Canada Masters championships. She also played on teams that competed at the World Masters Games in Brisbane (1994), Portland (1998), Melbourne (2002) and Edmonton (2005).
Marg enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She loved everyone. Wherever she competed she always reconnected with former athletes and quickly made new friends. She met Louise Reed in 1997 at the BC Seniors Games. After watching Marg run, Louise told Marg to “pump your arms”. They “clicked right away” and became best friends and travel companions. Louise said, “I had so much fun with Marg. We had good times all the time, always laughing. And Marg loves to spin around the dance floor too.”
In 2015 Marg was inducted into the Lake Cowichan Sports Wall of Fame.

I met Marg through CrossFit and was always inspired by her smile, her positive attitude, and her determination. She never complained and never backed down from a challenge. She was a true inspiration to all of us who had the privilege of working out alongside her.
I would often see her at the track as well, training with the same quiet determination. When I was preparing for the 400 m, she was kind enough to come out and give me pointers, sharing whatever knowledge and literature she had to help me get faster. That generosity and willingness to help others was so characteristic of her.
Marg was a truly inspiring woman, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

This news came so suddenly. My sincere condolences to all of Marg’s family and friends. I met Marg as the coffee lady and loved seeing her on each and every morning I bought a treat or lunch from her. From there we developed a friendship and for as many years as I can remember now, she looked after mine and then my daughter’s annual taxes, offering advice and guidance. We shared stories during our visits and I trusted her with everything. I am grateful to have known Marg and will always remember her very fondly.
