Olive (Olga) Furgala
August 30, 1923 - November 25, 2015
Tribute
With family by her side, Mom passed away at the Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan, BC at the age of 92 years (Aug 30, 1923), late in the afternoon of Nov 25, 2015 after having a stroke early that morning. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John (1994), all nine of her siblings, and her grandson Jeffrey (2013). Survived by her five children, Larraine (Ernie), Ronald (Lena), Larry (JoAnne), David (Joyce) and Geraldine (Darryl). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Deirdre, Gerald, Kevin, Faydra, Melanie, Chris, Lorelei, Shelley and Michael, 13 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Mom spent the last 10 years with her eldest daughter Larraine and son in law Ernie in Duncan, BC on Vancouver Island. We admirably remember how hard she worked alongside Dad on the farm besides cooking, cleaning and raising their children. Her family and friends will fondly remember the fabulous Ukrainian dinners, including her melt in the mouth perogies, incredible cabbage rolls, amazing borscht, wonderful lemon pies and perfectly layered vinatartas. Somehow she still found the time to tend to her huge gardens. Although she will be missed enormously, we are tremendously grateful she didn’t suffer. Mom’s enduring faith and loyal love for Jehovah God and his promises of a resurrection to a life in a restored paradise on Earth is a great comfort. At her request, there will be no Memorial Service. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at the Arborg Community Cemetery next spring.

Grandma’s generosity, kindness, concern, thoughfulness, lives on her daughter, my mother, Larraine. Thank you for so lovingly offering your home and your heart to her. Because of you, I was blessed to have the opportunity to create new memories with Grandma that I will treasure forever. You were a wonderful daughter, and are an amazing mother. Love you and dad more than words can say!

Our whole family sends our condolences. We all have fond memories of Olive. She was a faithful sister and Jehovah will remember everything she did . She was a wonderful friend to my mother . And we will never forget the amazing meals she used to make. Also the Tuesday night snacks we used to have at their house on the farm after the book study. We look forward to the day when we can see both John and Olive again in the paradise. May the God of all comfort be with you all.

My childhood is filled with the very best memories of my Grandma Olive, staying at the farm with Lori, making perogies, baking, family dinners, knitting, dancing to polka music, playing cards, picking berries…and so much more. She will be fondly remembered, her strong, sweet and always generous personality. I have lived very far away for the last while, but I am so grateful that my parents and sister were there for my grandmother and I will miss her dearly.
