Norma met the love of her life Robert, in Winnipeg, Man. where they married and started their family. They briefly moved to Ontario and in 1968 they settled in the Cowichan Valley. Norma made her mark through the years devoting countless hours to the Cowichan Bay Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at the Duncan Christmas Chaos wrapping gifts for people over many Christmas seasons. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. Norma’s energy spread throughout the province being an active member of the lady’s auxiliary within the BC Fire Chief’s association as well.

Norma loved her family and loved talking about her 3 Grandchildren to anyone who would listen. (Anthony, MacKenzie and Keigan) She was so proud to watch them through the years and see them grow into the adults they are today.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the Cowichan District Hospital’s ER and ICU departments for their dedication and compassion they gave to Norma while she was in their care.

Norma’s vitality for life and the care she showed others will be remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. A celebration of life to honour and remember Norma will be held on October 10, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Cobble Hill Hall. Sandwiches and refreshments will be provided.

Relation: Fire Chief Cowichan Bay Fire Rescue

Cowichan Bay Fire Rescue is saddened to learn of the passing of Norma Claus, a longtime member of our fire department family and Ladies Auxiliary, and wife of former Cowichan Bay Fire Chief Bob Claus.
Norma was part of an important chapter in our department’s history. The Ladies Auxiliary supported our firefighters for many years through countless community events and fundraisers, including helping raise the $2,500 needed to purchase Cowichan Bay’s first Bickle-Seagrave fire engine.
Her contribution represents the dedication of the many families who helped build and support Cowichan Bay Fire Rescue over the generations.
