Moon Sing Lowe

February 27, 1931 - November 13, 2012

Tribute

Moon Sing (Ming) Lowe of Duncan, B.C. passed away peacefully on November 13th 2012, surrounded by his family at Cowichan District Hospital at the age of 82.  Born on February 27, 1931 in Lew How, Kwangtung Province, China.

Survived by his loving wife Jing Yee, daughter Lena (Andrew Leong), son Norman (Janet) and son Dayman (Ainslie).  Grandchildren: Sandra Leong (Jason Born), Kevin Leong (Fiancee, Jaleesa Nardino), Samuel, Daniel and Nathan Lowe, and Breanna and Sydney Lowe.  He is also survived by his sister, Susie Lowe.  He will also be remembered by numerous relatives and friends.

Ming immigrated to Duncan in the 1950’s and worked with his father, Chung Bak (George) at Wing-On Market.  Returned to China in 1955 to marry Jing Yee and spent two years before returning to Canada in 1957.  Jing Yee and daughter Lena immigrated in 1958 to join Ming.

In 1960 Ming became the new proprietor of Wing-On Food Market Ltd.; he had a long and successful career and retired in 1988.  He was well respected and regarded by the community and was a prominent member of the Duncan Chinese Freemason Association, the Duncan Dart Koon Club and the Duncan Chinese Community Association.

As a loving husband, father and grandfather, his memory will be cherished by those he leaves behind.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Cowichan District Hospital for the care of our loved one.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Quw’utsun’ Cultural Centre, 200 Cowichan Way (next to the Chances Casino), Duncan, B.C., on Sunday November 25th, 2012 at 11:30 am. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Duncan, B.C.

My sincerest condolences to your family and all your family friends who must be grieving today. I feel so sorry that I did not hear about this or see the paper in time to be able to attend his service at the Cultural Centre. Mr. Lowe was such a pillar of this community for so long, he will be deeply missed by many.
