Michael (Mike) John Law

August 14, 1951 - March 16, 2015

Tribute

Mike passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Cowichan, B.C. March 16, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born in Craik, Sask. and spent much of his early life on the family farm north Aylesbury.  He loved being on the land and working with the livestock, which led him to be a member of the 4H Club in his youth.  Mike was also an active participant in community activities. His competitions in tractor pulls was source of great pride for Mike.  With Mike’s passion for the farm never far from his heart, he even assumed management of the farm for several years of his adulthood.   Mike devoted most of his career to being a long and short haul trucker and tour and shuffle bus driver, which he maintained with a flawless driving record.  Mike loved nothing more than good conversations with family and friends and had a catalogue of jokes he loved sharing.  He was an enthusiastic storyteller with an acute memory for details.  In his quieter times, Mike loved spending time at the computer on the flight simulator or reading a spellbinding novel.  A tried and true Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, Mike either attended the games or followed them on TV.  He was a fine curler throughout his life, and, also, closely followed professional curling.  Mike enjoyed camping and the outdoors and treasured his travels throughout North America, Europe and South Africa.  Michael is survived by his brother, Bill (Marie), sister, Les (Barry), brother, Brad and nephew, Greg.  He will also be missed by his extended family members and his many friends. Mike was predeceased by his parents, William and Joanne Law, and his brother Jay. At Mike’s request, no service will be held.   The family asks as a remembrance of Mike you show someone an act of kindness.

My condolences to the family. I once owned the bar in Aylesbury, and it was always great to have Mike drop in. The stories and jokes he told, kept us all amused and entertained. He was a great guy.

Sorry to hear of Mikes passing. Have not seen him much since he moved to BC. Just have to look out the window at the “Law” farm to revive a flood of memories. Barn has tumbled down but not much else has changed. As kids on the farm, riding the bus, at the rinks, at your post office. Later years drinks, lots of laughs, Mikes jokes.(Had six women pounding on my door last night, finally got up and let them out). Hundreds more!! What a sense of humour!! Had Riders season tickets together for a few seasons. Would start game day with a beer at Aylesbury Hotel then a beer and burger at the practice field next to the stadium. Never left the game early, win or lose. Then back to Hotel. Mike was very generous, always putting others needs ahead of his own without a second thought. Also totally honest and trustworthy, traits inherited from his father Bill. Hope to see the rest of the family again soon.
