Michael Peter Fric

August 20, 1942 - August 26, 2022

Tribute

Michael Peter Fric, age 80, of Ladysmith, BC passed away on August 26, 2022 after suffering a  sudden heart attack and stroke.

Mike was born on August 20, 1942 to Lovro and Bara Fric in Flin Flon Manitoba.  After high school he attended the University of North Dakota graduating with a degree in Business.  He returned to Canada and ended up working for Gulf Oil.

In 1976 Mike met and married his wife Marsha (Fickinger).  In January, 1978 they had Jessica, Mike quit his job and they moved to Victoria where he acquired an automotive business.  Before the year was over Caroline was born.

Family was always the most important thing in Mike’s life.  Not just his immediate family but his extended family as well. He wanted his girls to have a strong foundation and work ethic. They could often be found in the shop cleaning shelves and counting inventory, and then later working shifts in the store.  Mike took enormous pride in his girls achievements and was always available to offer support and advice.

Mike was a long time member of the Harbourside Rotary Club rarely missing a 7AM meeting.

He was a passionate golfer, loving both the game and the friendships.  He was also a long time member of the Victoria Golf Club and more recently a member of Mount Brenton Golf Club.  On the two courses he was able to amass 7 holes in one much to his surprise and delight.

Mike was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Joe, Mary, Lawrence, Mark, Anne, George and Yvonne. He is survived by his wife Marsha, his daughters Jessica and Caroline, grandchildren Hudson and Hazel, father in law Dale Fickinger, sister in law Janet Fickinger, brother Bill, and many nieces and nephews.

From: Brian Reynolds
Relation: Friend and golfing partner

Mike was a great friend and we played a lot of golf together at Victoria Golf Club. He was a tough competitor and took my money just about every time we played. Off the golf course he was a very kind personable guy who was always positive about all things.

From: BILL VAUGHAN
Relation: VGC GOLFING FRIEND

PLAYED LOTS OF ROUNDS OF GOLF WITH MIKE AND HAD A GREAT TIME WITH
HE AND HIS WIFE AT AN ANNUAL SEATTLE INTERCLUB SEVERAL YEARS AGO.

I met Mike many years ago at the Victoria Golf club and had him do some work on my cars at his Petro-Canada business. Always able to share a laugh with Mike at the golf course and through shared emails. He dropped off a few items prior to his move up the Island including a golf figurine for my yard which always keeps his memory alive.
