Michael (Mike) Delahunt

January 25, 1951 - September 17, 2025

Tribute

Mike was born January 25, 1951. Passed away suddenly on September 17, 2025, leaving a hole in the hearts of his large family. Siblings: Craig(Gloria), Carly(Art), Libby(Kent), Duncan(Heather), Noel, Jamie, and many loving Nieces and Nephews to whom “Uncle Mike” meant the world.

Mike was a member of Iron Workers’ Union 97. He was a talented carpenter who built a beautiful log home on Long Island in Shawnigan Lake, hauling most of the materials to the island with his canoe.  Mike kept in great shape, biking, swimming, canoeing, and swinging through the trees like Tarzan on his homemade jungle gym. He enjoyed gardening, travelling, working on his vintage cars, and spending time with family and friends.

Mike’s memory will live in our hearts forever, as those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.

Uncle Mike, or “Mikey”, was a treasure. He was always engaging, never in a hurray, and had a wry sense of humour. He had us laugh at ourselves. He was smart, and a gifted builder. There was an air of mystique around him. He seemed solitary, yet was good company, and supportive to his family when needed. He was a caring sibling and uncle. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

I have had the pleasure of working with Mike on many occasions. What a gentleman. Never ever saw Mike get wound up, berate or demean anyone while at work, polite, funny, and the easiest going demeanor. Always in great physical shape.
I worked with him at the Kelsey school construction. This was about the time he was telling us of canoeing his construction materials across the lake. Whenever I would think of him, and still will, it would be Mike in his round brimmed hard hat, and puffing on a Colt cigar/cigarillo, or driving that great big boat, the yellow Parisienne or Meteor, I’m unsure, but it was BIG. He was a great guy, friendly and a good co-worker. Saddened to hear of Mike’s passing.

I was absolutely shocked to read Michael’s obituary. I’m so sorry for his family. Michael has been a friend of mine for many years. He came to visit just a couple of months ago. I will surely miss him. God speed Michael.

I am saddened by the news of Mike’s passing. He was a lovely man. I met him at the Kerry Park arena back in the 90’s. He was just learning to skate but in time he got really good …at not falling any more! He just never gave up and seemed to enjoy tea afterwards with us in the curling rink. I saw him again at Christmas Chaos years ago now and he went out of his way to say hello and say he moved to Denman Island. He was a true gentleman. Just a really great guy. Gone too soon!!

I was deeply saddened to see Mike had passed. I’m so grateful for the many years of memories, laughter and friendship. Mike was truly an all around great guy – kind talented adventurous and quietly funny. Rest in Peace Mike, you will be missed.
