Michael Cane
May 2, 1940 - January 11, 2022
Tribute
Lifetime learner and educator, Michael Cane’s keen wit and sense of humour will be remembered long after his passing. Michael passed away on January 11th in his home in Duncan, B.C. with his wife, Elsa at his side. Michael had an incredible passion for learning and educating that continued into his final days. His interests were seemingly boundless but focused on science, all things mechanized and British. His particular interests in sports cars, motorcycles and aircraft have been well inherited by both his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Elsa, his children Jacqueline and Myles, his grandchildren Madeline, Finnson, Allison, Calvin, Zoey and hundreds of now adult students that were inspired and infected with his passions in the classroom. My memories of Michael go back to the 60’s when he was hillclimbing his Jaguar at the Mount Douglas annual event, at age 12 or 13 we would hike to the top of the hill and Michael would drive us back down in the car which was a real thrill at that age.

My first glimpse of Michael was a small figure in a green E Type Jag sliding into the pick up filled staff parking lot at Sir John Franklin HS in Yellowknife. It was my first day at the school. Michael became a values friend and colleague

He was the first person I met at Sir John A
MacDonald HS in Yellowknife. He give me the grand tour. It was always a delight to listen to him and Dom Perrino “argue” over the lunch table in the staffroom. I remember going home with a sore stomach from laughing so hard! He was a wonderful colleague and dear friend. We always referred to him as ” the man who knew everything”. My condolences to his family.

Hello Elsie
I was so sorry to read of Mike’s death. I remember well our good times in Cordova Bay. My husband Peter died 8 years ago. It takes a long time to get used to living alone. I have moved to a condo in Sidney and am liking it very much. Take care of yourself.
