Maureen Tait (Scott)

May 9, 1936 - December 31, 2014

Maureen passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital after a difficult year.  Predeceased by husband George, parents, Janet and Walter, brother, Walter, sister-in-law, Victoria and brother-in-law, Bing.  She is survived by daughter, Amanda (Brian), sister, Evelyn, in Scotland, nieces Brenda, Janet and Beth and nephew, Walter.  Mum’s passions in life were painting and gardening.  A talented artist, she was a member of the Cherry Point Art Group.  The garden that she and Dad created and nurtured brought her many hours of joy.  Mum bravely faced many challenges this past year.  Her circle of friends, both in Edmonton and in the Cowichan Valley, was a never ending source of strength for her.  Many thanks to Dr. Wong, for his care and attention, Dr. Morgan, LPN Ann and the 2-South staff at CDH, and a very special thank you to Jan, whose friendship cannot be measured.  At Mum’s request, no service will be held.  There will be a gathering in the spring in Mum and Dad’s garden.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Providence Farm – Arts Program or to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation – Echocardiography Campaign.  On line condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com

H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre Staff send our condolences to family and friends.

From: Janet Scott
Relation: Niece

Aunt Maureen is greatly missed. She and Uncle George brought much fun and joy to our lives when we were children in Edmonton and again during family visits out Vancouver Island. Our condolences to Mandy and Brian, and to all of Aunt Maureen’s friends.

From: Mary Teresa (Bradley) Murray
Relation: Family friend

Mandy and Brian, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to you and yours. She was always kind and generous to me and to us. This card was one your parents sent me many years ago. It has been a part of my Christmas season ever since. To me, this summed up their spirit and all at once, your Mom’s artistic sense. I will cherish this. I was happy that Carl had the opportunity to meet and I had the opportunity to visit with your Mom. I will remember your Mom (and Dad) fondly.

From: Bunny Lishman
Relation: Cherry Point Painters

I am so sorry to hear that your wonderful mum has died. I knew her a while back when I joined the Cherry Point Painters – she and her best friend June were the people I remember most. Since then I met up the with her at some Bryony Wynn Jones workshops. I saw her early last year and she gave me a hug and we talked about her health. She was a lovely, gracious lady and a wonderful artist. Every time I see a hydrangea I will think of Maureen. My thoughts are with your family xxx

From: Janet Burrow
Relation: Cowichan Valley Artists

i send you my deepest sympathy at the loss of your Mum, she was a brilliant Artists and very welcoming to me when I first came to the Island. Her art work was an inspiration to all of us and she was always so generous with her advice and helpful hints. I well remember her welcoming smile and friendship. She was a very gracious lady who I looked up to, I know her friends at Cherry Point will miss her presence. She often spoke of her twin sister in Scotland we shared many memories of our former homeland. My condolences to all her family.
Janet Burrow.
