Maureen Kenward

May 2, 1946 - September 22, 2020

Tribute

May 2nd, 1946 – September 22nd, 2020

Wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, artist and storyteller.

Born and raised in Northern England, Maureen came to Canada as a part of the Catholic Church’s FA program after graduating from the teachers training program at St. Mary’s College in Newcastle upon Tyne. Originally planning to stay for two years, she spent time teaching in Smithers and then Salmo, where she met the love of her life, David. Not long after she and David married, they moved to Prince George where they raised their three daughters.

A truly gentle and creative soul, her life was devoted to her family, her friends and her faith. As an only child, she surrounded herself with many dear friends; a family of choice. She took great joy in all that her daughters accomplished and even greater joy in being an active, engaged grandmother. Her children and grandchildren will have a lifetime of memories of stories read, of games played and of crafts made. In retirement, she and David were also able to finally to travel and enjoy some long dreamed of adventures.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and even more so by her husband David; daughters Maria (Doug), Elizabeth (Kevin) and Andrea (Thomas); and grandchildren Nicholas, Norah and Matthew.

A private mass has taken place with plans for a celebration of life at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Maureen’s name to the Parkinson Society of BC https://www.parkinson.bc.ca/donate/

H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre Staff send our condolences to family and friends.

From: Carolyn Kelly
Relation: A friend from years ago.

We are sad to hear of Maureen’s passing, and our deepest sympathies go out to all of the family. When our children were young, attending the same school in Prince George, we were part of each other’s lives, as Mike and I had also worked as FA’s at one time. We attended the same church, and occasionally visited together. In recent weeks, riding my bike, I have thought of Maureen and her family when I pass by their former house, and wondered how they were, and where they were. We remember Maureen’s encouraging smiles and words, and her love for people. Peace be with you all.

From: Marleen Murphy
Relation: friend from Prince George Days

Dear Dave, Maria, Elizabeth and Andrea, I was saddened to hear of your loss. I remember first meeting Maureen in Prince George and we hit it off and shared many a cup of tea and good recipes while our children had a good play. We moved to Nanaimo and later randomly met on the street one day. We had a good visit to talk about all the good places on the Island. I remember the day Dave and Maureen came to our house and we had a good catch up visit. Although we didn’t see much of each other since the move to Duncan, it was always nice to catch up when we did talk on the phone. Thinking of your family now and wishing your family the blessing of good memories of your wonderful family life. May you find strength and find peace in the coming months and years.

Very sorry to hear about Maureen’s passing. Looks as if you have lots of loving family support to share memories with. Take care and thinking of you.

From: Chris Murphy

We were so sorry to hear about Maureen’s passing. To Dave and the girls, Maureen was so kind and I will always have fond memories of her when I was teaching Elizabeth at St. Mary’s School and working with her at Sacred Heart School. She was always so concerned about the well-fare of other people and was so good about reaching out. Praying for you all. Love Chris and Terry Murphy

What a beautiful woman – may you be in peace in his arms now and forever. I know of you only through your daughter, years and years ago it seems. What a beautiful soul you brought into this world and I am thankful to you for that. If I had been stronger then and had I known how to show true love, I may have met you. My name means ocean and I see you standing before it in that picture….I see the same warmth in your eyes that I saw in hers… what the tide can bring to us.. but only for a time. I want your daughter to know that I give my love to the world now the best I can – a gift God crafted from my misfortune and pain as only He can and does….I had to say this as I never have before…I love her still..why I don’t know….a lost soul mate or lost friend or something that I let slip away……from those mornings in the fragile Autumn under the clock tower as we crossed paths….how I wish I could turn time back to her….
