From: Joanne Yearsley
Relation: stamp club member
Mary was an Emeritus Member (life-time) of the Cowichan Valley Stamp Club. Our members would like to express our heartfelt condolences to her family on our mutual loss.
Mary was such an amazing person with the passion for philately (stamp collecting) that would be difficult to match. We have heard wonderful stories of the stamp shop she ran in Duncan many years ago. Mary was a founding member of the CVSC and held an executive position in the club for many years. Mary encouraged many children to start collecting stamps by handing out journals with stamps and hinges. Mary especially loved Girl Guide, Bow Scout, and Christmas stamps. Mary’s extensive stamp collection included Canada, Australia, Britain, Netherland (of course) and many other countries world wide.
Mary’s enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge, her encouragement, her time and her kindness was always with a smile. Mary had the heart of gold, we will all miss Mary greatly and remember her fondly.
In spirit

From: Heather Kivari
Relation: She was my Girl Guide mentor.
I will always remember the things she taught me as a beginning Girl Guide leader. My knots are the envy of my family! I no longer camp in a canvas tent, but I’ll bet I could still put one up, 2 x 4’s and all.
