Tribute
Blore, Marlene Carol
February 27, 1946 – January 8, 2020
After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Marlene Carol Blore (Tansem) on January 8, 2020. While her battle with cancer has taken her from us too soon, she is now at peace, and soaring high in the heavens, with a dear long-time friend Denise and other family pre-deceased.
Marlene was born on February 27, 1946 in Edmonton, AB. Marlene grew up in Wanham, AB and later moved to Dawson Creek, BC where she met and married Michael Blore in 1963. Together they had two children and lived in a number of places in Alberta. As a self-trained and accomplished bookkeeper, Marlene’s career started at Edmonton Auto Parts and then the University of Alberta before moving to Powell River, BC in 1973. When her children were young, Marlene and her husband worked tirelessly to support their family. Together they ran a Gulf service station and towing company, then moved on to other jobs by day while Marlene would also drive taxi cabs by night for a year or two to help make ends meet. Her longest and most rewarding position was as a bookkeeper for Kip Brown Trucking where she worked for many years before retiring. Marlene was smart, determined, hard-working, and took a lot of pride in her career. In 2011 Mike and Marlene left the mainland and moved to Duncan, BC on Vancouver Island.
Marlene had a caring and supportive heart, and a quick “tell-it-like-it-is” tongue. Near the end her cancer affected her speech, which for her was the most frustrating and devastating ability to lose, because she enjoyed talking to people. She cherished the phone calls from friends and family. She loved hearing from her best friends and talking about the joys of their lives.
Having Marlene in your life as family or friend meant she was always thinking of you, congratulating you on your achievements, and sharing a laugh at humorous moments. She often worried about the well-being of others before herself despite her painful 30 year battle with Crohn’s Disease. In the years when she was well Marlene enjoyed camping with her husband Mike, reading novels, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and socializing with friends and family.
Marlene will be greatly missed by her family, and by all of her friends from Powell River, Vancouver Island, and across Canada, where she recently reconnected with a number of family members. It brought her so much joy to have reconnected with folks from the Wiegel family, the Tansem family, and the Haralson family.
Left to mourn and miss her are her husband Michael Blore, daughter Lisa Vallier (Rob), son Troy Blore (Lori), and grandchildren Megan Vallier (Doug), Jassen Pozdzik, and Shaun Gould. Marlene was predeceased by her parents Ray and Ida Tansem and brother Lyall.
At Marlene’s request no funeral or memorial service will take place.
We will miss you very much Mom. You will be remembered forever for the lasting warmth of your love for us, and your unwavering strength and courage to be there for us when we needed help or support.
Mom… I know I couldn’t have gotten as far in life as I did without your guidance and support
– Love Troy
My mom was lucky to have a life-long friend in you – and I am blessed I could also called you mom. Thank you for a lifetime of memories, love and laughs.
– Love Lori
