Tribute
Maria Frueh (nee Birndorfner), passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 10, 2014. Maria was born in Haiming, Germany, December 29, 1928. After the war, she immigrated to New York to be with her Aunt in 1953. She worked as a maid and then later at the Kodak packaging company. She moved to Kitimat in 1957 where she met Hans at the smeltering plant where he was a cook and she served tables at camp. The couple married October 1958. After living and working in Kitimat, then Salt Spring Island in construction, they purchased their farm on Hillbank road in 1963. Being both farmers growing up, they worked side by side every day to make the farm the success it is today.
Predeceased by her husband Hans in November 2000, Maria will be greatly missed by her children; Peter (Jan), Steven (Janice) and Nancy (Doug); her thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Traudl (Walter) and her sister-in-law Anni in Germany.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation or the Diabetes Association.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Cerwydden Care and to Dr. Roy for their loving care they gave Maria for the last couple of years.
A Celebration of Life and Tea will be held Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 am at St. John’s Anglican Church 486 Jubilee St. Duncan, B.C.
