Marguerite Mary Kinney

September 9, 1929 - August 3, 2018

KINNEY,  Marguerite Mary  –  nee Hick

Marg was born September 9th, 1929 in Vancouver, BC  and passed away on Friday, August 3rd, 2018, at the age of 88 years, in Duncan, BC.  As a baby, she moved with her parents, Arthur & Florence Mable Hick to a small farm in Saanich, BC. She was predeceased by her parents, and sister Kathy.  She leaves to mourn her husband Robert of 57 years, daughters Lannette (Ken),  Melanie (Wayne), Lynn and son Ken.  She also leaves behind five Grandchildren, Lyla, Ben, Isaac, Nichelle and Andie, as well as four Great-Grandchildren, Talon, Faith, Aurelia, and Aiden.  Also she leaves to mourn her sister Joyce Marshall (Tom) and many Nieces and Nephews.  Marg belonged to many Organizations over the years.  She was an Akala (Cub Leader) for 11 years in Victoria and Prince George.  She was an Associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 30 years where she served on several committees.  She was also a member of the OORP (Elks) in Victoria, Prince George, and Duncan, where she was the last Honoured Royal Lady in Duncan Lodge.  She also looked forward to playing Shuffleboard every Thursday, where she had won six trophies. Also she was a proud member of the Eagles in Duncan BC, where she had many future plans as an active member. As a child, and young woman, Marg was a naturally gifted operatic singer, and could be heard singing like a canary. As a social butterfly, she loved to talk to people when shopping or dining out, especially young mothers with babies.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagles Hall, in Duncan BC, on her Birthday, September 9th from 1 – 4 PM.

From: Sharon Jackson
Relation: A fervent admirer.

Oh I am so sad. I have been on council for 22 years, and during that time, I have attended most Legion events, as did Marguerite. She was unfailingly friendly and cheerful, even on the days you could see she was struggling a bit. It was always refreshing to see her there, proudly in her uniform. She will be missed and I thank her for her service not only to the Legion, but to our country. I will be there at her celebration of life. I will also let council know.
