Malcolm Ringham

December 10, 1934 - February 8, 2017

Tribute

Born in Llanbradach, South Wales, Malcolm grew up in Barry where he received his early education and his love of sports began. He moved to Sheffield to complete his medical degree, achieved 2 university blues and forged lifelong friendships. It was in Sheffield that Malcolm met the love of his life. They emigrated with their young family to Canada in 1961 after joining the RCAF. As they sailed down the St Lawrence Seaway, landed in Montreal, then travelled by train to Calgary they realized the vastness of the country they were to call home for the next 60 years. As a Flight Surgeon for three years Malcolm went from the arctic, to the west coast, to the lakes of Ontario. The family then moved to Stony Plain, AB, where Malcolm established a rural family practice. As the family grew, they travelled to many parts of the Rocky Mountains until the call of the ocean led them to the “SheerJoy”. They spent many happy days sailing under sunny skies and in hair raising stormy weather! After the years of sailing, Malcolm and his family landed in Maple Bay where the “yellow house” was their home for 25 years and where he established a thriving medical practice. Malcolm joined fishing and sports communities with enthusiasm and dedication. His travel and love of sports made him many friends along the way and after 35 years of practicing medicine, retirement beckoned. Malcolm and his wife made their retirement home alongside Quamichan Lake where he spent many hours admiring the view, gardening, and becoming an integral member of the Woodmere community. Malcolm died suddenly, leaving his wife of 59 years, his 3 children for whom he had immense pride, and his 5 grandchildren he loved so dearly.

Special thanks go to the BC Ambulance attendants, and the staff in Emergency and 3rd floor at CDH for the care they provided for Malcolm.

No funeral by request.

From: Elizabeth Forbes
Relation: he was my doctor

I am sorry for your loss. I knew Dr Ringham as his patient…he was a lovely man and a good doctor..He listened well and his personality and doctor style suited me perfectly. On my last dr visit to him..I had gone in to ask him if he would recommend a stress leave for me from work. Before i could ask, he told me he was leaving his practice…He looked stressed. I was very upset that he was leaving ..he talked about sailing.and the things he was going to do. I am so glad he had many years after that enjoying the sea and his family….I never mentioned my stress. However shortly after i was able to leave my job under positive circumstances and i thank Dr Ringham for that…giving me courage to change my life. I never had a chance to tell him that he made a difference for me. It took me years to find a doctor who i liked as well as Dr Ringham. My deepest condolences.
