Madeleine (Maddy) Rae Olsen (Giles)

November 27, 1969 - October 5, 2025

Tribute

In memory of Madeleine Rae Olsen, Born Nov/27/1969, Passed Oct/05/2025.

Madeleine (Maddy) was born in Victoria BC Canada to Vicky Gougen and Don Giles, who preceded her in death. Maddy is survived by her husband Kim Olsen. As well as her uncles, Ken Giles, Matthew Goguen, Steve Goguen and his wife Maggie. Her Grandfather, Jim Goguen. Her sister Lexi Allen and her children Laina and Paul. Her brothers Michael Giles, James and Mark Fowler. Her stepmother, Karen Fowler, and stepfather, Bill Fowler.

Maddy and Kim met when they were quite young, they lived together on Kim’s fishing boat for over 3 years together. They decided to purchase land and a home in Shawnigan Lake BC. They both knew that if they could live together on the small boat for that long; they could live together forever. Kim and Maddy were always off doing something; hunting, skiing, camping, and traveling to destinations such as Mexico, Hawaii, and their favorite of all, Costa Rica.

They named their fishing charter business “Always and Adventure Tours,” which Maddy told Kim just before her passing, that really the business was named after their lives, because their 40 years together was Always and Adventure. PURA VIDA!!!!!!!!

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses that advocated for, and took such wonderful care of Maddy, especially Cowichan Valley Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Cowichan Valley Hospice, they are an amazing organization. There will be a Celebration of Life on October 24th, 2025, at 2pm – at HW Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre located at  2853 Roberts Rd, Duncan. BC.

Maddy wanted it to be a casual affair so there is no dress code, wear something comfortable! Come share happy stories and memories of one of the most memorable people who ever graced our earth.

H.W. Wallace Cremation & Burial Centre staff send our condolences to family and friends.

From: Lisa Venoit
Relation: Friend/co-worker

I am so sad and still in disbelief at Maddy’s passing. Maddy and Kim still had their best years ahead of them, and now she’s gone much too young.
She was such a strong, but “silent” person; always supportive and never negative. Her work ethic was above and beyond, always stepping in and helping whenever needed.
Thinking of those she left behind and hoping that your memories of Maddy will always provide comfort.

From: Shawnna Onischuk
Relation: Co-Worker for many years.

I was so saddened to hear of Maddy’s passing. I met Maddy when I was 16 and we worked side by side together at Pharmasave for over a decade in the 90’s. She became a loyal friend and we always had fun together at work. I am not sure if you would remember me, but my heart goes out to you Kim.

From: Christina Clarke
Relation: Friends since the early 80s.

We will miss you always Madeleine 💜

From: Tanya and Steve
Relation: Madeleine was my chosen sister

Through the years you were always there,
With a laugh and a beer and words of care.
I’ll miss you, my sister, the one that I chose,
I am grateful I knew you—and sad it’s come to a close.

I sure hope we get to meet again Madeleine, wherever and whenever that may be. As we were philosophizing in our last few conversations, we agreed it’s all about the energy, and love is the strongest energy of all.
We love you Maddy,
Tanya and Steve

Relation: Worked with her

I am deeply saddened to hear of Maddy’s passing. I met her 28 years ago when I started working at Pharmasave. She was my trainer and an absolute class act. Her love for life was evident in everything she did. Kim was her rock and they loved to go on adventures. You will be missed Maddy. Rest in peace friend.

From: Lexi
Relation: Sister

My deepest sympathies to all Maddy’s family and friends. I came into your world 20 years ago at Pharmasave, we joined forces again at Cowichan District Hospital, we bonded forever with your Grandmother’s dining room table, it’s the center of our world now. Your infectious smile will be with me always. Be free ❤️🙏

Relation: friends

We have known Kim and Maddy for many years, and we feel very privileged to have them in our lives. Great times quadding and sitting around the big backyard fire! Loved her big smile and laughter! She was taken from us far too soon, and will be dearly missed.

Relation: Friend

You can find her somewhere in the stars.
