Linda Diane Richter

April 20, 1949 - September 9, 2026

Tribute

Linda Diane Richter (née Brasnett) was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and spent most of her life in the Cowichan Valley, where she raised her family, built a career, and created a life deeply connected to the people, animals, and natural beauty around her. Linda passed away peacefully in her home, on the property she adored most—a place that reflected so much of who she was. Surrounded by the beauty of nature that she cherished, Linda left this world having lived a life filled with adventure, creativity, love, and an unwavering sense of independence.

Linda dedicated more than 30 years of her life to working as a physiotherapist, a career that allowed her to help and care for others throughout the Cowichan Valley. Her compassion, practical nature, and ability to connect with people were reflected not only in her work, but in the way she lived her life.

Linda had a deep and lifelong passion for nature, adventure, art, and the outdoors. She found joy in travelling, exploring, creating, discovering, and simply being surrounded by the natural world. Her creativity was unmistakable, and she became known throughout the Valley for her unique and whimsical clay sculptures—each one a reflection of her imagination, humour, and extraordinary ability to see possibility in the world around her.

A true lover of animals, Linda shared a particularly special bond with her beloved dog Oso. More than a pet, Oso became her devoted companion and, toward the end of Linda’s life, her fierce and loving protector. Their bond was a beautiful testament to Linda’s gentle heart and the deep connection she formed with the animals she loved.

Linda was a beloved sister to Judy and Rick and the proud mother of Cari, Chelsea, Selena, Rebecca, Sean, and step-son Todd. She was the heart and matriarch of a large and loving family and took immense pride in the people she helped raise. She was a loyal friend to many and a doting grandparent to 14 grandchildren, all of whom adored their grandmother and the special place she held in their lives.

To her children, Linda was simply “the woman who could do anything.” She was resourceful, determined, inventive, and never afraid to figure something out for herself. She taught those around her not only through her words, but through the way she lived—independently, courageously, creatively, and with a willingness to take on whatever life put in front of her. No challenge was too big for Linda.

Linda will be remembered for her infectious laughter, quick humour, wisdom, creativity, and compassion for animals. She brought joy wherever she went, made people feel welcome and at home, and never lost her appreciation for the lighter side of life. Her presence was unmistakable, and her absence leaves a huge hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.

Though she is deeply missed, Linda’s spirit lives on—in the family she built, in the grandchildren who adored her, in the art she created, in the animals she loved, in the people she helped throughout her career, and in the land that meant so much to her.

She will be loved, remembered, and missed always.
