Lind Boddaert
August 19, 1943 - March 8, 2009
Tribute
Boddaert, Lind – It is with deep sadness that we announce that Lind passed away with her husband Edward by her side. Predeceased by her parents Eric and Kyr Pilby; sister Marilee Haylock; Uncle Ron White and cousin Brian White, Mississauga; uncle Hans Pilby, Toronto and cousin Karen Ash. Lind was born in Toronto but spent part of her childhood years on the farm in Hockley Valley. Lind knew, at an early age, that she wanted to be an artist and studied art in Toronto. Lind received her first commission at age 16 and painted many portraits of local people in the valley. At 19 Lind went to New York where she received several commissions and participated in an art show at the Savoy-Hilton Hotel. Lind spent two years in Vancouver and returned to Toronto to a studio at Yorkdale. In 1972 Lind was invited to paint her portraits for four months in department stores in Adelaide and Sydney, Australia as well as Johannesburg, South Africa. While in South Africa she stayed with a missionary family and had the opportunity to paint the Zulu and Tutsi people before working her way back to Toronto through the middle-east and Europe. In 1980 Lind moved the studio to The Eaton Centre where she continued her painting, sculptured bronze busts and taught drawing, sculpture and fine ceramics which she found a pleasant contrast to painting portraits. In 1987 Lind left the Eaton Centre to work in her home studio. After more than thirty years of portrait painting Lind turned to very large flower studies using acrylic paint. Painted in vibrant tones they were a welcome change from the more muted tones required for portraits. Lind and her husband retired to Vancouver Island in 1995 where Lind continued her painting.
Cremation has taken place and the interment of Lind’s ashes will take place at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Quamichan at 2:00 pm on Saturday April 25th, 2009, followed by a Celebration of Lind’s life in the church hall. In lieu of flowers Lind would appreciate donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Relation: friend
I have known Lind for over 10 years and it has been such a joy to know her. She excuded a warmth and genuineness that I so appreciated. I looked forward to seeing all her new art endeavors and each was full of surprise and thoughfulness. We used to have a ritual of meeting for coffee around birthday times. I enjoyed our times together and especially enjoyed Lind and Ed coming for a visit to Gabriola.
I will truly miss Lind and hope to cross paths again as she was a very special person and wonderful friend.

Relation: Portrait painter of my 3 children
Lind painted portraits of my 3 children when each reached the age of 7 – the first being in the Yorkdale store in 1973. They still hang in my living room today – I just love them. My daughter-in-law asked about Lind and I did an online search and read the sad news of her passing. I remember her as being such a lovely warm lady. I was so very sorry to hear the news. She will live on and be remembered in her magnificent work. I send my deepest sympathy on your loss.
