Tribute

Lowe: Lily – passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2010. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Arthur, sister, Edna, grandson, Derrick and nephew John. She is survived by her children; Thomas (Beverley), Philip (Linda), Susan Edgson (Dan); granddaughters; Sonia Latter (Paul), Shelley Edgson (Graham) and Taryn Lowe grandson Russell (Kim); great grandchildren; Bradley and Aaron Fisher, Megan, Sebastian and Fraser Lowe, Tye and William Edgson, and Nicholas, Matthew and Melissa Latter, nieces; Lillian (Jack) and Margaret (Arthur) and their families in England.
Lily Oakes was born in Hindley Green, Lancashire, England on June 18, 1915. Mom left school at an early age and began work on the looms at a factory in Leigh, working beside her mother until she trained to be a hairdresser. During the Second World War she was employed as a seamstress sewing fabric on the wings of various military aircraft. This is where she met Arthur and after a short romance they were married on June 15, 1940. Lily and Art lived in Lincoln until they immigrated to Canada. They arrived in Canada in October 1948 with their young son and took up residence in the village of Bamberton. In 1978, she and Art moved to Duncan for their retirement years and many happy hours spent at family gatherings enjoying Mom’s delicious cooking and great sense of humour. Lil spent the last four years at the Chemainus Health Care Centre where she made wonderful friends and received extraordinary care and love the nurses and staff. The family would also like to thank Dr. Fred Swann for his kindness and care of Lily when she lived in Duncan.
Lily’s funeral service will be held on Friday, March 26 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 5800 Church Road, Duncan BC at 1:00 p.m. with tea and good memories to share in St. Peter’s Hall afterwards. No flowers please. If you would like to make a donation in Lily’s memory she would certainly be grateful if it were made to Chemainus Health Care Centre, 9909 Esplanade St., Chemainus, BC V0R 1K0.
