Tribute

Age, 74, died on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 in Chemainus with his children by his side after a short illness. He is predeceased by his father Leonard William White. He is survived by his mother, Mary Lavinia White of Duncan and siblings; Clifford (Halina) of Calgary; Diana Johnstone (Jack) of Nanaimo; Joe (Penny) of Chemainus; Mary Lou of Duncan; son Matthew (Trina) and grandchildren Katie and Josh of Chemainus; daughter Amy Alexandra of Chemainus; son Jason Knowland of  Victoria and granddaughter Myla of Victoria.

Lawrence began his life in Southern Alberta, the third child of Leonard and Mary White. He studied business at UCLA and San Jose State University in California, where he met his wife Gail. He worked the oil patch in Louisiana, Alberta, and Alaska. On Vancouver Island he worked in administration at School District 69 (Lake Cowichan) for more than 20 years, serving as secretary-treasurer. In the year 1995 he established Lake Construction Ltd., a general contracting firm, which he operated with his son Matthew.

He was passionate about gardening, music and family. He appreciated lively conversation with strangers or friends. A celebration of Lawrence's life is set for Saturday, January 7th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., at the Chemainus Royal Canadian Legion.

We were shocked to here of the passing of our friend Lawrence when we arrived in Mexico. It took a few days to really accept it. Life will never be the same without him. Kendra, Grant and the boys in Brisbane, Jordy in Vancouver and Jeanette & I all send our greatest sympathies to Mrs. White, Matt & Trina, Amy and the entire White Clan. Dear Matt and Family..so shocked to hear of Lawrence’s passing.We were out of country at the time and just recently returned. He was a really great guy full of vision and creativity. I was will always be grateful for what he built for services for children and youth in Cowichan. The creator has called an angel home…he will be missed. You and your family are in our prayers.
