Laurene (Laurie) Ellen Indge
April 29, 1952 - December 6, 2023
Tribute
It is with deep sadness, after many years of ill health, our beautiful Laurie passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on December 6th 2023. Forever loved, she was the matriarch of our family – a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter.
Laurene Ellen Indge was born on April 29th 1952 in Vancouver BC to parents Bill & Gwen. A beautiful young girl from day one, Laurie enjoyed working within the financial industry for many years in Saskatchewan, being a mum to her 3 children, and a grandma to her 3 grand kids.
Laurie and David were married in Saskatchewan in 1977 and after a spell in Saskatoon, moved to The Cowichan Valley on December 1st 1990. She truly enjoyed spending time with her husband driving around the Cowichan Valley and, having a coffee and donuts in Mill Bay by the ocean. Laurie was someone who cared deeply for her family, neighbors, and community. She did this not out of obligation, but because she deeply cared about those around her and when able, she was always the first to offer help. As the kids grew, Laurie obtained her Registered Care Aid certificate and worked several years in the Cowichan Valley for VIHA, successfully juggling being there for her family and patients, many of whom also became her friends.
Laurie and David shared a special bond and their 46 years of marriage was an inspiring testament of commitment and devotion. Laurie was predeceased by her parents Bill & Gwen, infant daughter Moira, and is survived by her husband David, daughter Jenn (Matt), son Michael, daughter Maura (Shawn) sister Pam and grandchildren Benjamin, Kaye and Charlie. She also leaves in laws Brian & Marilyn, Chris & Roman, Colin, Emily and Trevor.
The family acknowledges with sincere appreciation the many comforting messages, prayers, and other expression of kindness that have been received during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Dr. Teresa Elliot for her ongoing support of Laurie, Marjorie at the ambulatory wound clinic, and the nurses on ward 2 of the CDH in Duncan who made Laurie’s final days comfortable. At Laurie’s request, a small private family service will take place in spring, as the flowers she always adored will once again bloom.
