Kristal Louise 'Louie' Mayo (McQuinn)

March 8, 1981 - December 31, 2021

Tribute

Kristal Louise Mayo (McQuinn) “Louie” of Lake Cowichan was born at Cowichan District Hospital to John McQuinn and Cindy Witt on March 8th, 1981. Sunshine passed away peacefully in her home on December 31st, 2021, at 10:00pm, at the age of 40, with her husband and family members by her side.
Predeceased by her mother Cindy Witt, grandparents Lou and Grace Witt and Dick and Diana McQuinn.

Kristal Lou will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Kourtlynn, husband Dustin, father John, step father Jason, sisters Staci and Marlee, Aunts Janice, Lois (Geoff), Rosalie (Dirk), Uncle Danny (Jacqueline) and cousins Scottie, Holly, Meghan, Derek, kevin and Christine, in laws Darcy and Debbie Mayo and Davis and Christianne Mayo.

Louie will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, selfless personality and caring heart. Kristal devoted a big part of her life to helping others by volunteering with The Cody Classic (helping families with childhood cancer) The Mesachie Group (muscular dystrophy fundraiser) organizing 13 annual 1/2 Cutz softball tournaments and she was the chartering President of the Kinette Club of Lake Cowichan.

As well as giving back to her community by coordinating and attending many fundraisers for people in need. Kristal and Dustin had the honor of receiving the Nichole Stock Community Service Award in 2015.

Kristal was the type of friend who would give you the shirt off her back. She literally opened her home to several friends who needed a place to stay, whether it be for a night or a year, there was always a place to stay and a meal on the table. Kristal always went out of her way to help those in need.

Kristal’s greatest joy was being a mother to her dearest Kourt Kourt, and the time they spent together was truly precious. She has always had a special connection with Port Renfrew and loved spending time there with her family and friends. Before Kourtlynn, Kristals proudest achievement was becoming Lady of the Lake in 1999. Kristal was a dedicated Laker who loved living and working in the same community she was raised in. Kristal worked at RBC for 15 years becoming the assistant branch manager in Lake Cowichan and recently winning The RBC Conference Award for outstanding work and dedication. Kristal also won a RBC Leo award for outstanding service this year, there is only 5 Leo awards handed out in the province each year.

Kristal wanted to thank all the doctor’s, nurses and care aids at CDH, VGH and BC Cancer Agency for going over and above with the care she received, she truly felt special.

Dr. Masuda your gift of patience and understanding gave Kristal peace at a time when there was little. Dr. Froese we couldn’t have done this without you. You were available to us night and day 7 days a week, not many doctor’s would call on Christmas Eve to check in on a patient. You are a wonderful man.

A celebration of life is being planned hopefully for February.
