Kingstone Reed

December 8, 1937 - March 22, 2018

Tribute

Sadly, after a long fight, Bey succumbed to cancer at home in Chemainus with the love of his life, Gail, his wife of nearly 59 years by his side. He also leaves behind his daughter Tammy and his 5 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Douglas, daughter Tracey, infant daughter Deborah and brothers Michael and Sam.

Many thanks for the kindness and support from our friends, family and Island Health Care nurses and a special thanks to Carol who has been right by our sides throughout this difficult time.

At Bey’s request there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers you may wish to make a donation in his name to the Chemainus Health Care Centre.

H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre Staff send our condolences to family and friends.

From: Gord Hooker
Relation: Friend and coworker

Bey had such a huge impact on my life. During our time working together at Trafford, he was a mentor and friend, and was always incredibly supportive and showed warmth, compassion and grace. He was like a father to me. I would not be the person I am today, or achieve what I have in my life or career, without his guidance. It was Bey who encouraged me to take on the CEO challenge at Trafford, and did everything to help me succeed. I couldn’t begin to express my gratitude toward him.

We had some amazing times, great laughs (often over lunches at Quiznos) and we just really clicked when we had to put our heads together to figure something out. It was really something special. He talked a lot about family, Sam, Mike, and of course you Gail; his relationship with you was clearly a lifelong love affair.

Sometimes the universe works in strange and amazing ways, and things happen that make you wonder if it’s coincidence or there something else, more ethereal, more divine, at work. On the very day of Bey’s passing, I was offered a job, at a wonderful company, doing work that brought me back to so much that I learned from him. It has been amazing to transition into this role, and I feel like I’m doing great work.

I think about Bey often, and I sure will miss him. Gail, if there’s anything I can do, please let me know.

From: Wayne J. R. Halyn
Relation: Former employee, Barrie, ON.

Just learned of Bey’s passing today. Very sad and sorry to hear that. I worked for him during the time he was running the Database Computer Centre in Barrie, ON, and found him to be an amazingly fair and well-spoken employer. We sometimes had discussions ranging across many topics: math, physics, reality, business, etc., and he had to be one of the smartest, most well-grounded people I have ever known.
He will be missed.
