Kenneth Leach

November 13, 1945 - May 3, 2013

Tribute

Passed away at home after a difficult battle with cancer. Ken was born in Perth, Ontario on November 13, 1945 to Walter and Lorrena Leach.  His early years were spent on the family dairy farm in Perth.  Upon graduation from high school he worked for the Scotia Bank in Lanark for several years and then transferred to Ottawa.  Several years later he moved west to Vancouver. He pursued further education and graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Economics in 1976.   This allowed him to begin his career as Chartered Accountant graduating in 1981 with his CA designation.  During these years he met and married Cathy and became the proud father of daughters Paula and Wendy.  His work allowed him a private practice in Lake Cowichan for many years which was then followed by a “northern experience” in Dease Lake.  Ice fishing was one of the highlights of his years in Dease Lake.  During his last year in Dease Lake he managed the Super Valu. In 2006, Ken and Cathy moved back to Duncan in time for him to enjoy being close to family especially his two grandchildren. After returning to Duncan he worked nights at Walmart for four years.  His last years were spent enjoying his home and family, his work, his pets and garden, his neighbors and friends. Ken leaves to mourn his wife of 39 years Cathy, daughters Paula and Wendy, grandchildren Cienna and Marcus. He is survived by brothers Alvin (Elizabeth), Wilfred, George, Eldon(Jane), and twin brother Keith(Marie); sisters Lorrena Griffith, Maryane Haas, and Joyce Lang.  Also leaves to mourn cousin Doug (Lynda). Predeceased by brother Arthur Leach and sister Edna Holmstrom.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors who attended to Ken during his hospital stay and especially the care workers and nurses from VIHA Continuing Health Home Care.

I worked with Ken at Wal-Mart and found him to be a professional at all times. His dedication to do a job right was exemplar. Not only was he a hard worker but was there to lend a helping hand when a co-worker needed it. Ken will be dearly missed.
Sincerely and with condolences
Melissa Currie
