Keith Harris
February 25, 1944 - October 24, 2024
Tribute
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Harris, aged 80, of Victoria, BC, on October 24, 2024. Born on February 25, 1944, in England, Keith was a man devoted to his family, friends, and community.
Keith had a remarkable talent for remembering everyone he met. He was always ready with a helping hand, a warm meal, a place to stay, or a listening ear.
A cherished part of the Victoria community, Keith was a founding patron of Spinnakers Pub, where he rarely missed his weekly pint with his dear friends “The Committee.” Together, they swapped stories and discussed politics. Keith was renowned for his sportsmanship in cricket, his advocacy and volunteer work for equal parenting rights, his love of literature, his tweed suits, his lively dance moves, and his quick wit.
Of all his accomplishments, Keith’s greatest joy and pride was his role as a father. His unwavering commitment to his daughters and grandson will forever be treasured in their hearts. Though Keith lived most of his life in Canada, he maintained strong ties to his family in England through handwritten letters, phone calls, and a meticulously documented family tree.
Keith is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Clare Harris and Charlotte Harris; his beloved grandson, Weston Harvey; his niece, Victoria Mather; and his extended family in the United Kingdom.
An open Celebration of Life to celebrate Keith’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Saanichton, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Missing Children Society of Canada in Keith’s memory.
May God bless our dear father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, and may he rest in eternal peace

I knew Keith since the 1980s. We played cricket in Victoria on the same team. Keith became a family friend to my parents and siblings. A true, kind gentleman who cared about the people around him. His volunteer work for the Victoria and District Cricket Association and his work with Albion CC and Beagle CC were truly exemplary. May you now rest in peace. On behalf of the VDCA, I offer my condolences to the Harris family.

I have known Keith for over 40 years since he joined my midweek cricket team. His bowling was quite unique and a little unorthodox but surprisingly successful.
He was an interesting character, very generous with his time and would always volunteer for jobs he thought were important.
He regularly attended the monthly cricket lunch at the Beacon Hill Pavilion and will be missed by many in the cricket fraternity.

I was so very sad to hear of Keith’s passing. My most heartfelt condolences to Keith’s family here in Canada and in England. Keith and I had been long time friends since meeting in a French class at UBC in 1972. Over the years we managed to stay in touch and share stories of our lives, career experiences, and an appreciation of good food. He often spoke proudly of his two daughters and was proud to be a grandfather. I always admired his incredible book collection, his academic achievements and business acumen. He was always a kind gentleman and had a good teasing sense of humour. I will miss my dear friend. Rest in peace Keith.
If possible, with permission, I would like to contact Charlotte. I leave here my contact number. 778 227 8320 or vickyjohansson1954@gmail.com. I come to the island periodically to visit my family in Maple Bay.

I knew Keith for 40 years, as a player on the same midweek cricket team & as a fellow attendee of the monthly cricket lunches at the Beacon Hill Pavilion.
He was a kind, genial person with a unique sense of humour, who played the game in the best of spirits & was always available to volunteer for jobs that supported the cricket community. His academic interests were evident from his impressive collection of books & I enjoyed his insights & opinions on a wide range of topics.
He was a good friend & will be missed.

Keith was a very remarkable man, in so many ways.
He had a deep concern for all, and in my area for men, who are in distress over divorce, custody, and access issues. Keith was active in the Victoria Men’s Centre since its opening in 1995, and continuing with him currently being the President. His commitment to giving a listening ear and sage advice to the many he consulted with, was appreciated over the past 30 years. Over that period he closely interacted with me, and was truly a friend. He will be dearly missed.
