In Loving Memory
With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Kathryn ‘Betty’ Atkinson on July 20, 2025, just one month shy of her 104th birthday. Betty passed away in her sleep after a long and meaningful life, marked by quiet strength and deep devotion to her family. Born on August 28, 1921, Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles ‘Howard’ and their son Doug. She and Howard were together for 73 years and shared many happy times traveling between winters in Yuma, Arizona and summers on Vancouver Island—places where they built lasting memories together. Betty took great pride in her appearance throughout her life. She was always well put together, with her hair done, clothes carefully chosen, and never a detail overlooked. No matter the occasion, she carried herself with dignity and self-respect, and took satisfaction in looking her best. She loved time spent with family—casino trips with her son Dave and going to play bingo with her daughter Nancy. She was known for her remarkable memory and sharp mind, which she maintained well beyond her 100th birthday—a milestone she was proud to reach with grace and clarity. Family was the heart of Betty’s world. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their activities when she could and celebrating their achievements with pride. Betty is survived by her son Dave and daughter Nancy (Dan) Bissillion, 9 grandchildren; Patricia (Mike), Kevin (Tracy), Rusty, Collin (Lisa), Kaland (Amber), Cindy (Josh), Robbie (Janet), Kenny (Melissa), and Allen (Angel), along with 30 great-grandchildren who will remember her with love and admiration. Fierce and feisty until the end, Betty’s legacy lives on in the family she loved and the life she lived.
Rest in peace, Betty – You’ve earned it!
