Kathleen Jack

August 14, 1955 - February 4, 2017

Tribute

Kathleen Marie Jack was born August 14, 1955 in Windsor, Ontario, the eighth child of Mary and Edward Lyons.  She passed away in Victoria, BC on February 4, 2017 with quiet dignity, as was her way, surrounded by her loving family.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Joan.  She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Don, children, Aileen and Andrew, step-sons, Kevin (Emily) and Collin (Michelle) and grandchildren Aedan and Arley.  Also left to mourn her passing are her brothers John and Frank, sisters Maureen, Jean, Pat and Ruth Anne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.   She will also be fondly remembered by special friends, Alan and Mary Lou Curtis of Victoria as well as by all those she touched in her personal and professional life.

Kathleen spent her early life in and around Windsor, Ontario.  She attended university in Windsor, where she excelled on the basketball court, and earned her teaching credentials at Queens University in Kingston in 1979.  Securing a teaching position in far away and unknown Prince George, BC in 1980, Kathleen relocated there, where she met Don and his sons, Collin and Kevin.  Don and Kathleen were married in 1988, welcoming daughter, Aileen in 1992 and son, Andrew  in 1997.

As the years passed, MS gradually forced Kathleen into early retirement but never dimmed her sunny smile or courageous spirit.

The family moved to Duncan, BC in 2010.  Despite worsening health, Kathleen continued to love and inspire her family, guiding the children forward, always encouraging them toward the next challenge, though largely unable to join them in their adventures.  To all who knew her, Kathleen was a hero of the highest order, unselfishly supported by the unwavering love of her husband and family.

Death released Kathleen from constant pain but nonetheless took away a remarkable presence and a legacy of tolerance, optimism, good humour and quiet determination.

The family particularly wishes to thank  Dr. J. Burger for her continued, attentive care,  Michelle and the entire East Team of Home Care Nurses for their compassionate and cheerful attendance over our time in Duncan, Nancy Cornell, for her Therapeutic Touch and the special bond she nurtured  with Kathleen.   Also, thanks for the kindness and understanding shown by the dedicated staff of the ICU at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.  Kathleen never considered herself special in any way, but she was; thank you for  your part in  recognizing her.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1:30 at St. Edwards  Catholic Church, 2085 Maple Bay Rd., Duncan, BC

Dear Don and family, it was with sadness that we heard this news. It gave us an opportunity to reflect again on those special years in Prince George. It was always a pleasure to go to work and Kathy was such a special person. Those pictures of she, Tracy, and Diane say it all. Once again our sincere condolences. Bruce and Sue.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kathleen’s family and friends as they mourn her passing and celebrate her life. While it has been many years, I cherish the fond memories of many family visits and more than a few country fairs. I cherish those time to this day and Kathleen will remain a part of those memories. May you likewise be comforted by your memories in the days, weeks, months, and years to come.
