Tribute
Juliana ( Julie, “Jewels”) Etty April 30, 1928- September 24, 2009
Julie was born in Richdale, Alberta; the youngest in a family of eight children. As the “baby” of the family, Julie was much loved by her older siblings, and as a result she grew up with a friendly, fun loving nature. Her family often said, ” no grass grew under her feet!”
Julie Meyer met and married Ken Etty, a dashing member of the Canadian Air Force. They began their life together in Hedley, B.C., where they quickly had three young children. When the mine closed, they packed up their young family and moved to Duncan. Here, their fourth child was born. Duncan became Julie”s final home, and over the years she made many lifelong friends.
Julie was a practicing member of the Catholic Church. Her faith meant a great deal to her. She also worked for Safeway for twenty years. She loved her job, and it was while working there that Julie earned the nickname, “Jewels”. She was a gem in the eyes of both her fellow employees and the customers who would wait in line just to go through her till.
As a mother, she gave each of her children unconditional love, a strong set of values, and she taught them (by example) the importance of hard work and family. Her grandchildren adored her for her kind heart, her fun loving ways, and the many “treats” she shared with them.
Alzheimer’s took Julie from us many years ago, but even under it”s debilitating influence, Julie”s eyes still twinkled and she carried on with great courage.
Mom, BaBa, friend, Juliana…… you will be missed.
Julie is survived by her siblings Rita Bain and Joey Meyer; her children Duane Etty (Dianne) Prince George, Karen Lunty (Clarence) Gibsons, Glenn Etty (Sharon) Duncan, and Lorri Baker (Jerry) Crofton; her 10 cherished grandchildren Jennifer, Sarah, Alana, Glenn, Laura, Craig, Kelly and Scott and her great grandson Ryan.
Many thanks to the caring staff at Acacia Lodge, who provided Julie with a safe, comfortable home during her final years. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Alzheimer Foundation.
A Mass for Christian Burial to celebrate Julie’s life will be held at St. Edwards Church, 2085 Maple Bay Road, Duncan, B.C., Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Father Ed Kosa O.M.I. Celebrant. Followed by interment at Mountain View Cemetery, Somenos Road, Duncan BC. Online condolences may be offered of www.hwwallacecbc.com.

Glenn, Duane, Karen and Lorri,
My thoughts are with you at this time. I have such wonderful memories of Julie and your families. We had such wonderful chats and I remember our “Bingo” excursions to Nanaimo. I know you will miss her but I am sure that you are relieved that she is now at peace. Your families will always be in my thoughts.
Lovingly,
Shelagh Glanville

My deepest sympathy to all of the offspring. I am honored to have known such a wonderful lady. Working with her made work a joy.
A smile always comes to my face when one of our bosses told her to put some spring into her step……..Julie’s comment…………….I’d like to put some spring into his step out the door! She made everything fun.

I spoke with Mom yesterday and she told me that Aunty had passed away. I am so sorry for you all. I have so many great memories of Aunty as a little girl. She always had such beautiful fingers and oh the wonderful rings, but the best was her infectious laugh. Will never forget the late nights curled in bed and her Mom and Aunty having a great laugh in the kitchen. All my love I will be thinking of you on Tuesday. Vera and Julius
