From: Audrey Thurber and her daughter Sally Steeves
Relation: Relationship - How did you know the deceased?

I was so sad and shocked to hear about the passing of Joe. He was a wonderful gentle man that gave special care to my mum, Audrey, at the Chemainus Health Care Centre. I always enjoyed seeing him with all the residents there. He had such a wonderful quiet manner and treated everyone with special tenderness and an extremely caring approach. He always put my mum in bed for the night and she called him her “man” and was always happy to see him on the floor. Such a great loss of a fabulous person. My hearts go out to all his family, children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all. With great sadness and sympathy, Sally Steeves.

From: Barry and Margaret Chapman
Relation: Co-worker

We were very sad to receive the phone call from John about Joe’s sudden death. It came as such a shock. Joe and I worked together for many years. at the COOP. We were able to get out on the golf course a few times and had great times with lots of laughs, once with Rob and Bryan who showed me a thing or two. Joe was a very gentle soul and always stayed so calm in difficult situations. I can see how that was a very important skill when he went into training as a home care attendant. He will be missed very much. Our sincere condolences to Tamara, Rob, Bryan and Andrea.
