John Scoular
October 12, 1939 - June 5, 2011
Tribute
It is with great sadness that the family of John Wright Scoular announce his passing. Born in Glasgow Scotland12 Oct 1939, and died at home in Duncan, BC with family at his side, 5 June 2011. Predeceased by parents Robert and Robina Scoular, sister Jean Patterson. Faithful husband to Margaret (Armour) for nearly fifty years; father to Agnes (David), Robina (Allan) and John (Susan). Pappy to Blair, Meaghan, Alastair, Brittany, Katherine, Benjamin, Bryce, Iain, Brina and Brodie. Great-Grandfather to Logan, Bishop and Jack. Brother to Robert. Uncle, Friend, Mentor and Confidant to many.
John brought his wife and daughters to Canada in 1966, and after the birth of his son settled in London, Ontario where John succeeded as Processing Designer for Labatt Canada. As an active member of the Robert Burns Club, John promoted both Burns and the Scottish culture in London, and to his family. Member of St. John”s Lodge No. 209A A.F.& A.M.(London) and Cambuslang Royal Arch No. 114 (Scotland). Upon retiring to British Columbia, John enjoyed the good life and the company of friends and family, and most recently could be seen in town driving his 1928 Dodge “Monster”. Always a generous man, who strongly believed in his convictions and the value of hard work, Pappy instilled his values in his children. A true patriarch to his family, he will be sadly missed. The family thank those people who played a part in John”s life, especially the care he received from Dr. Elliott and the camaraderie of the “Horseshoe Gang”.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christian Children”s Fund of Canada, or the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be held at Duncan Travelodge Silver Bridge Inn on Sunday, 12 June 2011 from 12:30 to 3:00pm.

When I think of Uncle John, I always remember a happy gentleman who made time for me (and everyone else) and always had an interesting story to tell. He was a man who knew something about everything! He always went out of his way for you and I was especially grateful given my mum and dad couldn’t, that he attended my wedding a couple of years ago which was a great honour. I also remember when he stayed with me following my mum’s passing during which he even taught me how to iron shirts! I just wish I could return some of the generosity he has shown me over the years especially during the various visits with Gran to Canada. A great man who will be missed dearly.

We have so many wonderful memories – especially of the many Burns suppers and “Cavalcade” back here in London, Ontario. We will always remember how dashing John looked dressed in his kilt. When remembering the many fun times, it seems so vivid, as if it was yesterday. Those wonderful memories bring smiles and laughter – we pray they do the same for you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Doreen, Sondra, Jackie, and Ann-Marie

It was a shock to hear of Jock’s passing. He and I worked together for 21 years at Labatts and I always enjoyed working on a project with him. I’m sure he will be greatly missed by his family. Again, my sympathy.
P.S.- His obituary appeared in the London Free Press today, 14 June.
