April 5, 1946 - September 16, 2022

Tribute

Friday, September 16, 2022 John (Owen) Webb passed away peacefully at the age of 76 with family by his side.

Owen was predeceased by his parents Bill & Jean Webb, beloved brother Ross, his 2nd set of parents Arnold & Alice Carlson. Owen leaves behind his loving wife Bonnie, special furbaby Bailey, children Tanya (Bob) Court, Brady (Brandi) Webb, Tara (Rob Duncan), Rory (Christie) Webb, Amanda McPhee, Meghan (Patrick) Mitchell. Grandchildren Jaime, Jordyn, & Jenner, Sage, Griffin & Owen, Emily & Abby, Essien, and Mckenna & Bennett. Owen was thrilled that he was going to be a great-grandpa in March. Owen leaves his sister in-law Joan Webb and loved niece Diane Martin and special nephew Ron (Elaine) Webb as well as numerous cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Owen also leaves behind a huge extended family of friends who he considered family – from North Cowichan Municipality, North Cowichan South End and Crofton Fire Department, and his numerous coffee buddies.

Owen was born April 5, 1946, in Victoria, BC at St. Joseph’s Hospital 11 years after his brother Ross. During his time in Victoria, he made many life-long friends, many of whom he still saw regularly. He was a life-time member of the Mystics Car Club from the 60’s and still attended regular reunions. Owen and his first wife Sally Jackson raised their 4 children in Duncan. Owen then met Bonnie and they’ve shared over 30 wonderful years together in Crofton, Lake Cowichan and most recently Duncan.

Second to Bonnie, his 4 children and 2 step daughters Owen was most proud of his time as a Volunteer Fireman/Dispatcher/ Deputy Chief/ Chief where he served the Cowichan Valley for over 40 years. Owen worked at the North Cowichan Municipality for over 35 years. Upon retirement he continued to drive trucks for various local trucking companies. During his retirement he could often be found at local coffee shops with his buddies. Owen loved to play crib with his family and especially his crib buddies he had for over 30 years Rick, Bill, and Cliff.

We would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Cowichan District Hospital ICU, the Royal Jubilee staff in the cardiac unit and the CVU unit especially nurse Sandrine who showed unbelievable compassion, love, and humour to Owen in his final days.

Online condolences may be made at www.hwwallacecbc.com

Relation: Neighbours and friends for, forever.

Owen was like a big brother to me. He taught me how to play crib when I was 9 years old. I play still, with a group of seniors in my town. He was well loved and will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to all the family. ❤️

From: Betty Anne McCallum
Relation: since 1957 when I moved out west to Victoria.

Our whole family was saddened to hear of Owen’s passing and wanted me to pass on their condolences with mine. I first met Owen and his family when I moved out west in 1957. At that time they lived on Jasmine. Great family and I know that he is reunited with them now and with Auntie and Unc. May God give you peace and strength as you travel without him. Sending love and prayers for all the family

From: Vicki (Prior) Rowan

As one of the kids who grew up at the Fire Hall, Owen was always one of my favorites of the parents. I remember him as a devoted father and a great guy who always had a smile on his face. My heartfelt condolences!

Relation: Friend

Dear Owen, we loved you so much. You were the first person my mom, sisters and I met when we moved into the neighbourhood. My sister’s first boyfriend. You and Steve have known each other since the age of 8. He remembers you, with your six shooters strapped around your waist, diving and rolling and shooting at the bad guys. You were our brother. No one called me “Boop” but you. This breaks my heart knowing I won’t hear you call me Boop anymore.
We lost touch with each other for a few years but when we reconnected, it was like no time had passed. We loved your impromptu visits when you came to Victoria for appointments. God how we will miss that laugh. I loved making you laugh just to hear it. You mellowed beautifully with age O. Thank you, dear friend and brother for the memories. Until we meet again. XO

From: Wayne Johnston
Relation: A fellow firefighter.

I was saddened to learn that Owen had passed. My condolences to his Fire Family and his home family. I had worked with Owen in getting the fire trucks from Crofton repaired. He was great to work with. Rest easy Owen, we can handle it from here.

From: Terry Shaw
Relation: Friend

I first met Owen over 30 years ago when I joined the Crofton fire department as a Proby and Owen had transferred from Duncan South End. He welcomed me and my family to the firehall with a big smile and his infectious laugh, which was the start to a lifelong friendship. Rest In Peace, you will surely be missed old friend. Our heartfelt condolences from our entire family to yours Bonnie.
