John Cyril McCauley

July 5, 1953 - June 10, 2025

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved member of our family, John Cyril McCauley, at the age of 71, on June 10, 2025. A loving husband, caring father, and cherished brother, John touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Born on July 5, 1953, John grew up in Duncan BC. John’s early decades were consumed with sports in the Cowichan Valley. He was a skilled athlete involved in football, track and field, lacrosse, golf and rugby. John ran a successful roofing business in the Cowichan Valley for more than 4 decades. A skilled craftsman, John was creative and capable of building anything. John also had a passion for boating and fishing on the waters throughout the Cowichan Valley.

John shared the last two decades with his beautiful wife, Debbie. Together they created a spectacular home, next to his childhood home on Philip Street, with wonderful landscaping recognized on local garden tours. Between their home and their property on Lake Cowichan, John and Debbie spent countless hours working together and entertaining endless numbers of friends and family. Their true joy!

John is survived by his spouse, Debbie; his children, Deena and Baylea (Adam); step-children Brad (Christy) and Sarah (Jason); his grandchildren Olivia, Ruby, Braden, Abi, Karl and Lily; his siblings, Graeme (Patti), Robin (Jim (dec.)), Kevin (Amy), Ross (Deb) and Brian (Fiona); and a host of friends and extended family who will forever hold him in their hearts.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday September 20, 2025, at Mellor Hall at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds starting at 1:00pm, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and find comfort in one another.

Though we mourn his loss, we take solace in knowing that John lived his 71 years with purpose, love, joy and on his own terms. His spirit will remain alive in the hearts of all who knew him, a guiding light and a reminder of the profound impact one life can have on many.
