John Lawrence
Tribute
J. Craig M. Lawrence
January 4th, 1952 – September 1st, 2024
Craig was born in the Cowichan Valley, just one day after his father’s birthday. The son of John S. M. Lawrence and Patricia E. Laughnan. He is survived by his three daughters, Soleil, Jacy, Britany and their families. His granddaughter, Ruby. His two sisters, Glyn and Penny, and their families; and his step-parents, Ceri and Curly. As well as the mother of his kids and ex spouse, Dale and his former wife Sally. We are all so grateful for the care he received from his doctors at Steeples and Sunridge, in retirement. His family and friends will forever remember Craig’s warmth, charm, sense of humour, love of trivia, and entertaining wit.
A celebration of life will be held with the immediate family at Long Beach near Wickaninnish, his childhood summer stopping grounds. Please consider gathering with friends at a favourite place, on his birthdate, to raise a toast and share stories in his memory.
Pictures can be shared on his FB page. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163, U.S.
Craig, you will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on through the stories you helped tell, and in toasts and retellings shared by your friends and family.

Hello Penny and family
I was sorry to hear today about the passing of your brother Craig.
I heard the news while hiking with some friends who you might remember: Roddie Garbutt; Jim Odonnell and Kathy Odonnell (Kathy Howard); Miles Dobson, and Murrough O’Brien. We all live in the Cowichan Valley, and every Wednesday we get together for a hike on Cobble Hill. Conversation on the hikes often goes to people we knew in our youth, including the Lawrence family.
I read the obituary just now and it sounds like Craig had a very interesting life, full of love and friendship. I remember chatting with Craig briefly some years ago when I dropped by your home for the retirement party for your husband John.
The obituary mentions that you are having a family gathering at Long Beach on his birthday in January. What a lovely way to remember Craig. I was at Long Beach recently, and will be thinking of you and your family on that day.
Take care, Rick

Relation: Childhood friends
Dear Glynis & Penny,
I was so sorry to hear of Craig’s passing. I had a really great conversation with him at The Maple Bay Yacht Club a number of years ago. I asked after you both, & he told me about his career as a cameraman in television. I told him I remembered him as your chubby, cute little bro! I love that you are having a family celebration at Long Beach, near Wickaninnish. Lots of Duncan families used to spend time there in the summer, including ours, the Tassin’s, my uncle Tony Staples, & more. Such special memories. I remember my Dad originally tried tenting with my Mom, my little bro & me but a very wild storm put an end to that plan! From then on it we stayed at Pacific Sands when it was very basic but awesome.
Sending love & hugs to you both,
Jill (Lendrum) Benwell
