John (Bill) William Kidd
September 3, 1944 - March 14, 2022
Tribute
John William “Bill” Kidd, 77, of Duncan, British Columbia, died of complications from cancer on March 14, 2022.
Bill was born on September 3, 1944, in Macklin, Saskatchewan to J. Acheson and Florence (Measner) Kidd. Bill started farming at the early age of 12, and purchased his first piece of farmland in the early 1960s. From 1962 to 1964, he played Junior A hockey with the Saskatoon Jr. Quakers.
Bill obtained a diploma in Agriculture in 1964 from the University of Saskatchewan. In 1974-75, he served as a Teaching Assistant with the Department of Anthropology, and later as a Research Assistant conducting a socio-economic impact study, looking at individuals’ evolving relationships with television in Northern Canadian communities. It was there, in the town of Rankin Inlet, NWT (now Nunavut), that Bill met his wife, Pamela Goshorn.
After actively farming for more than 40 years – first in Macklin, Saskatchewan and then in Boggy Creek, Manitoba – Bill and Pam moved to Vancouver Island. There, Bill enjoyed playing hockey and Saturday breakfasts with cherished friends. He also spent much of his time casting lines in search of the next big fish, and investing in new business opportunities.
Bill was a loving father, grandfather and uncle who will be dearly missed, and a loyal friend who was always ready to help. He had a penchant for practical jokes and was an enthusiastic connoisseur of ice cream. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pam; his son Brendan (Crystal) and their sons Carter and Liam; his daughter Arwen (Joe); his siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Bill’s life, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 7, at 2:00 PM at H.W. Wallace Cremation & Burial Centre in Duncan, British Columbia. For those who wish to honour his memory, the family requests donations be sent to the Providence Farm therapeutic community (www.providence.bc.ca).
