John Wilfred Kelly

April 19, 1934 - April 22, 2019

Tribute

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of husband, father and grandfather, John Kelly at the Cowichan District Hospital (CDH) with his wife, son and daughter by his side. Jack, as he was called in early days, was born and raised in Merritton, Ontario and became a Red Seal Electrician working for Alliance Paper.  He married his true love Patricia in 1956 and quickly added two children to their family.  In 1964 he moved the family to Duncan to work at the Crofton Mill.  To spend more time with his family he left the mill in 1975 to work as an electrician for School District #79 until his retirement in 1995.  Dad enjoyed keeping active and especially appreciated the friendships which occurred over his 45 years as a member of the local 10 pin bowling league.  Always an optimist, never one to complain, curious yet analytical, kind and helpful.  He viewed life as a glass that was always full and lived life with the utmost integrity.

John’s life will be remembered by Patricia his loving wife of over 60 years.  Dad was a proud father and even prouder grandfather! He will be missed by son Doug Kelly (Deana B.) and daughter Zoe Kelly. By his daughter Sharon (Michael) Moss and family; Kyle Moss (Rachel E.): Katie (Luke) Kenyon: Neil (Emily) Moss: Bruce (Nicole) Moss. John was predeceased by his parents and cherished brother Alex and survived by his sister Muriel (Harry) Nickerson: sister-in-law Maxine Kelly and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at CDH for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 13 at 2:00 pm at the Wallace Burial Centre, 5285 Polkey Road, Duncan.  In lieu of flowers, if desired a donation may be made to the Cowichan Hospice. In honor of his life please consider toasting John with a sip of fine single malt scotch and remember to eat dessert first – preferable a piece of lemon meringue pie.
