Tribute
John William Hook, BSc (Math and Physics), M.Ed. UVic
December 5, 1946-July 23, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John on July 23rd.
åJohn was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to John and Ruby Hook. After a few moves between Victoria, Vancouver and a brief stint back to Moose Jaw, his family settled in Crofton BC.
John was a much loved and well respected Physics and Science teacher at Cow Hi for 31 years. Teaching was his passion. John loved all sports and played many. He loved to fish, camp and spend time with family and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, a sister Bernice Turner and a brother Fred Hook. Left to mourn his passing are his beloved Sandy, his son Rob and his daughter Lesley and son-in-law Greg King. He leaves behind the apple of his eye, his granddaughter “Maddy Girl”. Also left to mourn is his sister Elizabeth Carpentier, and many nieces and nephews.
He was surrounded by his family at the end. The ending was peaceful. He knew he was loved.
Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to Cowichan Hospice House, Clements Center in Duncan, or to a charity of your choice.

Thinking of Lesley and her family with the passing of their dad and family member. I always think of Mr. Hook and all the kindness and generosity he gave to us women’s basketball team. His dedication to us and the game provided me with some of the best experiences through high school. I barely made it through physics so grateful to get to know him through ball. Thank you dearly for your time and passion. Sending you all my love and support during this difficult time.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends who had the pleasure and honor of knowing the man I will always think of as “Mr. Hook”. He was the first teacher I met when starting high school, and was one of the most instrumental in taking an otherwise indifferent student and getting me interested in physics.
I always enjoyed his classes, either when being taught, or while trying to get him to tell us stories instead. I was very lucky to have had you as a teacher, and I am saddened to hear that you are gone.

Relation: One of my high school teachers, One of Dads coworkers.
Mr Hook taught me Physics at Cow High and was an excellent teacher. My Dad knew him well as he also taught at the high school. I met him once when I was very small and he told me to read the Hobbit because I was an insatiable reader…I took him up on that😀
