It is with sadness we announce the death of John Ritchie Giles. February 17, 1944 – November 17, 2018. Survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gerry Giles, and his three sons: Richard, Raymond and Lenard (Wren). John is preceded by his parents Betty and Victor Giles. Also left to mourn are brothers Mike, Jim (Debbie), Tim (Brenda) Giles and sisters Dianne Giles and Sherri Conway (Dave). John had several nieces and nephews as well as three grandchildren Gavin, Kailey and the apple of his eye Emmaly Giles.
John worked for more than 40 years for Westcan Terminals in Cowichan Bay and travelled the Island as a Longshoreman Foreman. His good natured and giving approach to life, family and community will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in the Cobble Hill Hall – the day that would have been John’s 75th birthday.

John was a great guy and good friend. I worked with John when I started longshoring in 1969. When he went foreman, he never changed. He was the same guy and a fantastic person to work for. He was very organised, which kept things flowing at work. He will be greatly missed.
