Tribute

Gallagher, John Howard (Jack) – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on January 27th of beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Jack Gallagher. Jack was born in Vancouver, BC and grew up in Modesto, CA, Edmonton, AB, and in Vancouver. He served honourably with the Royal Canadian Engineers in World War II and returned home to work as a pipefitter. Jack was a member of the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Union local 170 for over 60 years. Jack is survived by wife, Patricia, daughter, Diane, son-in-law, Nick, granddaughter, Miyuki and sisters Ona and Bette. Members of the Canadian Masters Swimming Association of which Jack and Pat were active members for many years will remember Jack fondly. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bryan Bass and nurses Janice, Susan, Frank, Dimple, Monique and all the other members of his care team at Cowichan District Hospital. Your excellent care was noticed and will be remembered for a long time. At Jack’s request, there will be no service. His family has asked that donations be made to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation, 466 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan, BC V9L 3R6 in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com.

Having Jack come to work with me in 1973 was an absolute blessing besides being a great Pipefitter he became a great friend. He got me involved with swimming, taught me how to play chess and my family really enjoyed our sailing excursions . I admired the painting that he gave me of the navy vessel “Amherst” which his brother sailed on during WWII

Great memories of a wonderful man.

Our thoughts are with you Pat at this time

I met Jack through my father who swam with Jack and Pat.
Jack was a good friend of my father and I got to know him over the past ten years. I appreciated his stories of life in BC and his dry wit..
His painting hangs on my livingroom wall and is admired by all who see it.

I shall miss you Jack.
Thanks for being you.

Such sad news to hear of Uncle Jack’s death.
Fondly remembered by all Auntie Pat’s family in Wales-“Land of her Fathers”.

Jack stayed with the family during his war years and was always fondly remembered.

He returned to the valleys more recently with Pat to renew friendships, everyone pleased to welcome him once more.

He made the most of his life on earth and will be greatly missed by his family.

We all send our love and deepest condolences from Wales.
We are thinking of you all.
Take care.
Gill,Dave,Arthur and Heather

Jack worked with my father at Burrard Dry Dock. Jack used to take us out on their sailboat when we were kids. My father and I went with him when they moved their boat over from North Van to Gibsons. I had so much fun out on the water on their boat. I still have a picture of when Jack let me take the tiller when I was only 11 years old. Jack also took me for my first and only ride on a motorcycle. My mother made me wear a snow suit so I wouldn’t get too cold. Thank you, Jack, for the great childhood memories. My thoughts and prayers are with Pat and Diane.
