Tribute

Gallagher, John Howard (Jack) – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on January 27th of beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Jack Gallagher. Jack was born in Vancouver, BC and grew up in Modesto, CA, Edmonton, AB, and in Vancouver. He served honourably with the Royal Canadian Engineers in World War II and returned home to work as a pipefitter. Jack was a member of the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Union local 170 for over 60 years. Jack is survived by wife, Patricia, daughter, Diane, son-in-law, Nick, granddaughter, Miyuki and sisters Ona and Bette. Members of the Canadian Masters Swimming Association of which Jack and Pat were active members for many years will remember Jack fondly. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bryan Bass and nurses Janice, Susan, Frank, Dimple, Monique and all the other members of his care team at Cowichan District Hospital. Your excellent care was noticed and will be remembered for a long time. At Jack’s request, there will be no service. His family has asked that donations be made to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation, 466 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan, BC V9L 3R6 in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com.

Relation: great neice

Such a sad passing! Uncle Jack always talked to me like an adult – even when I was just a kid. He made me realize that thinking for yourself and having opinions was a good thing.

I’m sure I’ll remember him always.

From: Patrick & Patricia Godwin
Relation: good friend & neighbour

Patrick and myself want you to know how very highly we regarded Jack. To us, he was more than a “next door neighbour”. Over 8 years, we became good friends, and considered it a privilege to have come to know him & Pat.

We will miss him a great deal, and will cherish forever his warmth and good nature – always willing to help a friend, or share a story, he was a very special person. He will live on in our fond memories of him.

Affectionately, Patrick & Patricia Godwin

I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to Patricia and families …indeed, Jack touched many people throughout his life…I assure you, as a veteran, “we will remember him”…also, as a swimmer, we will remember him…I know Jack inspired many swimmers (even Patricia), young and old, competing in Masters Swimming… and, annually, completing the Keats-Gibsons swim… we are the better having known Jack.
