John Braybrooks

Tribute
John passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on a beautiful sunny day, his favourite kind. He was predeceased by elder brother Tom in England, and survived by sister Mary (England), loving wife of 60 years Mary, son Dan (Lorrena), daughters Ann (Brian) and Sally (Don), and five grandchildren Elsa, Carrie, Gabriel, Mia and Eric. A graduate of Norwich School in England, John began his career with the East Suffolk and Norfolk River Authority, where he served as Area Engineer for the River Waveney area – a role he truly loved. In 1970, a new opportunity led him and his young family to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada where he dedicated the next 40 years of his life to civil engineering, first with Ker Priestman & Associates (UMA) and later as an independent contractor. His work took him around the world, designing water resource projects not only throughout BC but also Kenya, Ghana, Indonesia, and the Caribbean. John was deeply passionate about his collection of vintage British cars and was never happier than when he was under the bonnet of one of them or engaging in lively discussions with his fellow car enthusiast buddies. The consummate gentleman, he will be very sorely missed by his family and friends. Celebration of Life to be held on September 28, 2024, at Kerry Park Recreation Centre, 1035 Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road, Mill Bay from 1:00-4:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria Hospice gratefully appreciated.
