Three children, four stepchildren and twelve grandchildren; Mother Maureen, sister Tina, brother Carey (Jackie) and sister Patti (Bruce).
Sutherland;
Son Dustin – daughter Megan (Brent and grandson Jack) – daughter Jeni (Darren and grandsons Caleb and Carter).

Our blended marriage of four children Michael (Alicia) and grandchild Nathan (Mother Kenna), and grandchildren Cole and Ryan (Mother Nicole) – Stewart (Jo) and grandchildren Tyson, Mackenzie and Wyatt) – Leander (April) and grandchildren Hannah, Ella and Elijah (Mother Heather), and Lindsay (Tes).
Jo also leaves to grieve; too many to name, Sister and Brother-in-laws of the Sutherland Family and their offspring. Sister and Brother-in-laws of the Dumont Family and their offspring. So many close friends, co-workers and relatives. Her closest [our] friends, Judy and Paul Johnstone.
Jo loved her life, and her career as a Clinical Director at Cedars Recovery. She was exceptional at her work guiding Addicts through their treatment and onto recovery.
She was always open to offering advice, assistance, and solutions as a leader, and a sponsor with leadership skills that were armed with life experiences.
Jo excelled in Post Secondary Education later in life at Camosun College and at Royal Roads University, where she obtained her Master’s in Leadership and she also became a Certified Addictions Counselor.
On November 30, 2024, Jo reached her recovery milestone and celebrated 30 years of Recovery in alcoholism! It was a very proud moment for her and everyone around her.
Jo’s Legacy will live on through all the accomplishments of her work, of the way she was able to help others and by the way she maintained her own high standards she had set for herself as an unwavering Warrior.
Among other things, Jo was an impeccable dresser, whether casual or business, and she had the matching footwear for every outfit. She was also my dress police, but I was no competition other than her ensuring that I also looked good.
A loving grandmother adored by her three grandsons. Spending time with her grandsons was far more important to her than buying gifts. Their quality time was spent at Disneyland, waterslides, camping, seeing the Raptors, playing boardgames, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, having lunch, visiting and talking about their life and future plans.
Jo loved shopping with her friend Judy, every spare moment was spent shopping and kayaking. She worked tirelessly earning and deserving to be happy.
In her early years she was a good softball player, I taught her how to golf, we never kept score just enjoyed the game, I bought her a nice driver and she would drive 200 yards.
Jo loved kayaking with her friend Judy, they would spend countless hours paddling around Mill Bay, Shawnigan Lake, Cowichan Lake, Cowichan Bay and other waters near by. Paul and I always knew where they were going and that they had the safety gear. In Hawaii they paddled around the Humpback whales, their stories were all very exciting!
We met in 2001, fell in love, married in 2010, supported each other in our careers, and continuing loving and respecting each other, which will continue.
Jo loved to dance, we would go to the annual Metis Festival at Batoche, Saskatchewan. We would arrive on a Wednesday and start dancing. We danced until about 2 AM until the following Sunday. We also square danced competitively showcasing the Metis Traditional Square Dancing. When we left Batoche, Jo would say “I am Metis’ed out”!!
Jo embraced the healing of the Cree Sundance and was gifted with a Cree name after her third Sundance. Her honored name was Pisim Iskwew / Sun Woman. Such a beautiful and fitting name for Jo as she loved the sun, the water and loved having a beautiful tan.
Jo believed in her Higher Power; she was a very Spiritual woman, and will rest peacefully in the Spirit World. She was so very loved by many.

What a delight it was to share some beautiful times celebrating shared family with Jo. How exciting to live vicariously as she posted incredible pictures of kayaking adventures. How inspiring she was to those around her! It aches my heart that she is gone so soon, yet I know her spirit and legacy live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Sending hugs and love to her beautiful family 💕

We had lost touch after she moved and it was a sad shock to see the beautiful Jo Dumont’s obituary. It was a privilege to know this amazing, loving, kind wisdom keeper. She had such an influence on so many lives and I would hear of her from clients who had been to Cedars so knew she kept sharing all that love and wisdom. You are in my heart, Jo. Fly high on those wings of yours. Deepest sympathy to all the family.
