Joan Pope (nee Elvins)

Tribute
After a courageous battle with cancer, Joan’s family regrets to announce her passing. She now joins her Mother and Father, Marie and Shirley Elvins and sister Doreen Carter. Born in Duncan, BC, Joan attended Queen Margaret’s School where she found her love of horses, graduated in 1961 with grade 13 at Cowichan High School.
Following a short career with a Duncan bank, she became the first female licenced stock and bonds dealer in BC. After transfers to Calgary and Whitecourt, AB, she joined the bank of Commerce. Her marriage to Alvin Pope included living in Algeria, Libya and Singapore. She returned to the Valley, worked in the Mill Bay post office then started her own bookkeeping service. Joan met her lifetime friend, Pete Petersen while curling. They loved their trips to Mexico and cruises to Alaska. Joan enjoyed dragon boating and Curves fitness group.
A memorial service will be held December 15, 2013 at the Cowichan Station Hub, 2375 Koksilah Road from 1-4pm. Joan requests any donations be made to the Victoria Hospice Foundation in her memory. The family appreciated the great care Joan received from the Hospice workers.
