Jeanne Marie Kerrone
October 6, 1938 - July 16, 2022
Tribute
Jeanne Marie Kerrone (nee Hillyard) passed peacefully on July 16, 2022, in Duncan, surrounded by her family. Marie was born in Duncan on October 6, 1938.
Pre-deceased by her parents Tony and Jean Hillyard, Marie is survived by her loving husband Jim, daughters Kathleen Beaveridge, Linda Wallace (Ian), son Steven Kerrone (Jody) and her beloved grandchildren Justin (Grace), Kayla (Torge), Michael (Hannah), Mark (Alycia), Matthew and Jillian, and great grandchildren Oliver, Henry and Wyatt Kerrone. Marie is also survived by her brother Ken Hillyard (Eileen) and nephews Stuart and Matthew.
Marie enjoyed her career as an elementary school teacher and librarian in the Cowichan Valley, retiring in 2003 as librarian for both Maple Bay and Alex Aitken Schools. Marie’s greatest joy was her family. Grandma and Papa’s home was a place where the grandkids and their friends were always welcome. We were all so blessed to have Marie as our Mom and Grandma and will cherish the many precious and happy memories of summer pool days, helping out with the Christmas Tree Farm and spending time at the family cabin in Mill Bay.
Marie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Sunridge Place who provided such compassionate and gentle care during her stay there. As well, our thanks and gratitude to Lisa Elzinga, Chris Collins and the many other care givers who provided Marie with such loving and tender care at home.
At her request, there will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marie’s honour to the Alzheimer’s Society (alzheimer.ca) or The Cowichan Cat Rescue (cowichancatrescue.org).

Dear Linda and family,
I was so saddened to turn the page in today’s paper and see Marie’s face. She had been on my mind just last week. I wondered how she was doing. As you know, she and I go back to the good old days at the old Maple Bay school then over at the new school. So many memories. She was a gem and she will be missed by so many. I’m grateful for having the opportunity to know and work with her. Sincere condolences and hugs to you Heather

Linda, Kathy and all of Marie’s family-
I was sorry to hear of Marie’s passing. I worked for many years with Marie at Alex Aitken. She was such a supportive colleague and good friend. She was such a support in the early days of telecommunication in the classroom, we forged our way forward together. I know how proud she was of her family and her grandchildren. Sending my heartfelt condolences.
