Jean Dunphy
May 13, 1941 - January 5, 2018
Tribute
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a loving wife, mother, and friend, Jean Marie Dunphy (nee Barton) on January 5, 2018 at her home in Cobble Hill, British Columbia.
Jean will be greatly missed by her husband of 57 years, Lorne Dunphy, as well as her son Donald Dunphy (Catherine), daughter Kathryn Dunphy, brother Raymond Barton, and numerous other relations.
Jean was born on May 13, 1941 in the Fredericton area of New Brunswick to Donald and Edith Barton. She grew up in that area where she later met and married Lorne Dunphy. Together they moved to Vancouver Island in 1961.
Jean loved children and enjoyed working as a teacher’s assistant in the Cowichan Valley until she retired. She also loved cooking, cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays, and watching nature. She was an active member of her TOPS weight loss support group.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 27, at 1 pm at Shawnigan Alliance Church (1603 Wilmot Avenue, Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia). Children are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Cowichan Cat Rescue.

Jean had a generous and loving spirit, and she will be missed. She was quick to give encouragement, and she was always kind. Her warmth could light up a room. I love you, Jean.

My sister was a wonderful and caring person who was always there for me as she was for everyone. I will always remember her effervescent personality and sunny disposition. Our love for one another was unquestionable. I am so glad we got to that Blue Jays game a few years ago, something we had talked about doing for well over decade. Rest in peace. You will be missed.

I worked with Jean at Mill Bay School for many years. We both loved the Blue Jays and had an agreement that if either of us won the lottery, we would take each other to a Blue Jays game in Toronto. Jean was a wonderful woman and she was loved by staff and students at work.

I was deeply saddened by the news of Jean’s sudden passing. She was a beacon of light in my life. As my only first cousin living in BC, Jean was someone in the same time zone with whom I could readily connect by telephone and who I had hoped to see again in person sometime soon. Jean’s caring attitude toward others, her practical wisdom , her radiant spirit and her resilience were an inspiration to everyone who knew her. My heartfelt condolences to family. Jean will truly be missed!

A few days have gone by since Jean’s passing and many thoughts have come and gone, every day is a different memory of times past, sharing with her the joys of growing up, visiting on McLeod Hill and our times together. Always a cheerful voice on the phone after she moved to B.C. with her beloved husband Lorne. We were so pleased to share moments at their 50th Anniversary in Cobble Hill. Well loved. God Bless her family, we love you.
