James Wayne Dobson
October 28, 1943 - April 26, 2026
Tribute
With heavy hearts, we announce that Wayne Dobson passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2026.
Wayne was born October 28, 1943 and raised in Saskatoon. He started at Canada Post as a Letter Carrier at seventeen, worked his way up to Postmaster, and retired after 40 years of service. He shared many years and a family with Bev, the mother of his children. He later met Judy in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and they were married in 1997. In retirement, Wayne and Judy moved to Vancouver Island and made a home of their own, the place they had always pictured. It was where he loved to be, and where he stayed until the end.
He was a talented and passionate craftsman who took pride in creating with his hands. He built furniture as well as musical instruments, works of art shaped by his skill and his patience. Wayne never rushed his work. He spent countless hours, often days or weeks, getting every detail right. His creations were expressions of his creativity and his love, and many of them will be cherished by family and friends for years to come.
Music was a lifelong love. Wayne cared about how a song was heard as much as the song itself, the equipment, the setup, the act of really sitting and listening. He started young and never let that passion go. Wayne loved cars and automobiles of every kind too, hot rods especially. That love stayed with him from boyhood onward.
In everything he did, Wayne was diligent. He looked after his home, his yard, and the things around him with complete attention, and he brought that same patient care to his work and to the people he loved.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Geraldine, and by his grandson Kaydence.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his children Jamie (Andrea) and Michelle, and their mother Bev; his stepchildren Sherri, Crystal (Douglas), and Devin (Jessie); and his sisters Juanita and Linda.
He was a proud grandfather to Brandon, Alisa, Sabrina, Justin and Zachary; Tyler, Chelsey and Logan; Ahria; Madison and Lincoln, and great-grandfather to Tailia, Bentley, Everly, Carson, and Preston.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
