Ian Colin Caldwell

March 15, 1944 - September 6, 2015

Tribute

The family of Ian Caldwell are very saddened to announce his passing.  Ian will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humour, and ability to strike a conversation and leave a smile on the face of those he just met.  Ian was born and raised in Regina, Sk except for his high school years when his parents moved to Alida, Sk after buying the Alida Hotel. After high school Ian moved back to Regina where he met and married Pat Cuming in 1966. In 1969 Ian joined the Leader Post as a news photographer later becoming their Chief Photographer and Managing Photo Editor until retiring Sept 13, 1996.  In 2002 Ian and Pat decided to move to Vancouver Island and chose Duncan as the place to call home.  They both fell in love with the area and feel fortunate to have met and made so many wonderful new friends.  Ian leaves behind his wife Pat, their son and daughter-in-law Shaun and Kristy and Grampa's pride and joy Brendan and Erica. Our daughter Stacey and his much loved Grandkitties Neko and Kuma. Ian's sister, nephew and niece Margo Livingston (predeceased Al), Ward (Deidra) and Lesley (Jon).  Brother-in-law Doug Cuming, sister-in-law Susan Etheridge, plus many wonderful nieces and nephews, and a long list of close family friends.  Ian was predeceased by his mother and step-father Evelyn and Marshall Caldwell, Ian's father Stan Kerr, plus brothers & sister-in-law.  Although Ian has left this world, he leaves behind many fond memories that will continue to put both smiles on our faces and tears in our eyes.   “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal;    but death leaves a 'love' no one can steal”

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club at 4955 Trans Canada Hwy on Sunday September 13 at 2pm.

H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre Staff send our condolences to family and friends.

I can’t believe it’s been nearly 20 years since we worked together at the Regina Leader-Post and regularly played racquetball, between cigarettes, at RacquetCourts North. You were a good friend, delightfully funny co-worker, tremendous photographer, excellent mentor and pretty decent racquetball player. Your friends and your families — real and from the LP — are going to miss you!

From: Doug & Bonnie Doyle
Relation: Friend

Some of the greatest times of my life were playing Raquetball at Regina Raquetball Courts North with Ian & Ken Daley and our visits after.
Ian was there for me through some of the hardest times of my life and I have always been greatful to have had Ian as a friend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Pat.
We know you will miss him, as will all who knew him.

Relation: Friend and co-worker

Pat,
I’m sitting here with a tear in my eye and a smile on my face as I think about Ian. We worked together for 27 hilarious years and it is impossible to pick out which of his stories made me laugh the hardest. I missed him when he left the LP and even more when left Regina. Stella and I send our love and prayers to you, Sean, Kristy, Brendan and Erica and Stacey

Dear Pat I am so sorry for your loss. I also lost my husband Gordon, this April and know how much you will miss your husband. I know it has been a long time ago, but I still remember what good friends you were to Bruce(my ex) and myself. My prayers are with you and your family.

Pat and family, my sincere condolences. I was shocked and sadenned to read Ian’s obituary. Ian and I kept in touch since working together at Maverick Land. He would usually call me about once a month and we would discuss many topics and would always share a good laugh! He would often talk about his family and was very proud of you all. He was a great man and a good friend and will be missed…

Pat, we are so sorry to hear about Ian’s passing – our thoughts are with you and your family. Having the privilege of meeting and working with Ian was most enjoyable – especially when he often shared his great sense of humour and quick wit. He will be sadly missed.
