Hilary Ann Bennett

May 19, 1950 - October 4, 2020

Tribute

Hilary Ann Bennett passed away at the Duncan Hospital on October 4, 2020 after a short fight with cancer.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Heather Bennett and Chris Green; brother and sister-in-law Simon and Grace Bennett; and brother and sister-in-law Keith and Gayle Fifield and her niece Elizabeth and nephew Jason. She is predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Pat and Bert Fifield.

Hilary was born on May 19, 1950, in Northiam, Sussex, England. Her family emigrated to Canada in June 1957 and settled in Duncan. She attended school in Duncan and had her first job working the Westwells’ Soda Fountain at age 16.

Following her passion she went on to obtain a degree in horticulture from the Malaspina College, but worked her professional life as a bookkeeper at which she excelled.

In her younger days, Hilary enjoyed travelling to England, Germany, Austria, Greece, Russia and Hong Kong and in later life with her mother, with whom she was very close, to Hawaii and Europe. She was an avid gardener, which gave her great joy, an excellent cook, took an interest in gemology and various crafts such as ceramics and was a passionate reader of novels.

In her wish to help others Hilary taught adults how to read and volunteered at the Food Bank.

She was loved and will be missed.
