Helen Margaret McDougall
October 15, 1927 - July 25, 2026
Tribute
Helen Margaret McDougall was born in Washington USA on October 15, 1927. She came home to Canada as a very young child. Helen lived in the Victoria with her father, Colin Kenneth McKenzie, mother, Estelle Lottie McKenzie (nee Sharpe) and sister, Moragh Jean Campbell-Hope. Helen was a English teach at Belmont Secondary School in Langford BC for 25 years. Helen downsized from her home in Sidney BC and move to Duncan, BC approximately 20 years ago. Helen never once regretted her move to Duncan and made many very good friends at Heron’s Way. We are so happy my Mum had such a caring community to live in. After a short time at the Cowichan Hospital she passed away on July 25, 2026.
Helen is survived by her daughters Marion and Evelyn Hunter. Sadly, her first born daughter, Margaret Meeres passed away August 24, 2022. Helen is also survived by Margaret’s daughter, Amanda Meeres. Amanda’s children (Helen’s great grandchildren) Darien Meeres and Lola Kitchener-Meeres. Helen’s second husband, Gordon McDougall, passed away before she moved to Duncan. She missed him very much.
Helen loved animals so very much! After mum’s miniature pincher, Roxy, died the Heron’s Way community kitty, Saski, started to visit. Mum made it hard for her not to stay and it worked. She was thrilled to have another pet to love and care for.
Helen liked to chat and laugh. Travelling and collecting art was her passion.
Helen made it clear to us she did not want a funeral service. I know she would be pleased that we are having a small a gathering in her honour at Heron’s way.
