Heather Staples

October 23, 1941 - April 7, 2011

Tribute

Staples: Heather Anne : passed away peacefully in Duncan, BC on April 7, 2011, leaving us much richer for her presence. She was born in Nanaimo, BC on October 23rd, 1941.

Predeceased by her parents, Nat and Isabel Staples, Heather is survived by her sister Sheila (Jim), nieces, Shelley and Shannon, grandniece, Meagan and grand nephews, Jordan and William.

Despite health issues, Heather enjoyed all that life had to offer. She has left behind many life long friends, who each had a special place in Heather’s heart. Her kindness and generosity touched them all.

More recently, Heather introduced her beloved poodle Holly and more recently, Sera, into the world of agility. Her pets didn’t let her down, bringing in ribbon after ribbon as Heather honed in her skills.

Heather seized the opportunity to travel, favourite places included, Paris, London and Waikiki.

She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, Cowichan Trefoil Guild and the Avid Agility.

Services will be held at St. John the Baptist, Anglican Church on Jubilee Street, Duncan, BC, Saturday, April 16th, 2011 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cowichan S.P.C.A or favourite charity. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com

H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre Staff send our condolences to family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

From: Gail Mutter Hassell
Relation: For a lifetime.

I was honoured and blessed to have known Heather for all of my life and I have always admired Heather’s ability and strength to fill her life with joy and colour. She was a remarkable person who cared deeply for the wellbeing of others and she was generous to all who had the good fortune to know her. My sincere condolences to Sheila and family.

From: Lesleigh Slade
Relation: Heather shared her kindness with us

I first met Heather in 1994. She came to see my 3 year old daughter who had similar medical issues. Heather came over to the house, met my daughter, and they spent the afternoon playing together. In all the years since, Heather always asked about my daughter and passed along loving thoughts. We’ll always remember her strength to overcome adversity, and the positive energy she shared so freely with others.

From: Joan Murray
Relation: friend

I have been blessed knowing Heather for a number of years while I lived in BC. Each year I come to Victoria I spend time with three other friends and Heather. I am so thankful I saw Heather in October last year. Jennifer Ferguson invited Carol Roome, Pam Westhaver, Heather and I for lunch. Jen actually went to the hospital and brought Heather to join us. She was so enjoying the sun coming in the picture window…I have a picture up of all of us. Yes, Heather in her housecoat and slippers looking just great! She has certainly been an inspiration. In spite of Heather’s health issues she lived life to the max. We shall all miss Heather and her bright spirit. So many good memories and pictures.
I extend my heartfelt sympathy Sheila, Jim and family.

From: Jill Lendrum Benwell
Relation: Cousin

Heather & I have several friends in common. Although we didn’t keep in touch, I would receive updates frequently. When Heather & I did chance to meet, i.e. at the Terry Fox Run, at the dog park, or in town, we would have a lovely chat. She always spoke so warmly about her family, & had a very sunny outlook on life. My thoughts are with Sheila & family.

From: Marnie Tower (Dunn)
Relation: family friend

I was so sad to hear of Heather’s passing. My family and I lived 2 doors down from Heather and her Mom, many, many years ago. They looked after me, after school. Heather taught me and a friend how to cook our first meals by the age of 9, meatloaf and tuna casserole! I have many wonderful memories of Heather and her many dogs (over the years), also fond memories of her Mom, sister Sheila and Sheila’s girls. My condolences to you. Heather was such a fabulous human being, so positive, outgoing and kind. We will miss her dearly.

Marnie, Mary and Warren Dunn
