Harinder Singh Manhas

January 16, 1962 - January 3, 2024

Tribute

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harinder Singh Manhas, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. On January 3rd, Harinder passed away with his loving family by his side, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

On January 16, 1962, Malkit Singh and Karam Kaur Manhas welcomed their long awaited son, Harinder. Harinder’s grandfather had a great celebration for his new grandson that was remembered by all in Duncan.

Harinder’s work ethic was very high. He started working in a clean up crew in Youbou at a young age, as well as working with his dad in their shop and taking care of their townhouses and other businesses. Harinder had always worked in the lumber industry, whether in the mills, or driving trucks between mills. He had worked very hard all his life. In between school and work, Harinder enjoyed playing street hockey, soccer, rugby and other sports.

Harinder and Manjit met and got engaged in 1983, and were married on August 5th, 1984.  They would have been celebrating their 40th Anniversary this summer.

Over the years Harinder and Manjit would welcome four beautiful daughters – Alicia, Davina, Pamela, and Meena. The girls were Harinders pride and joy! He loved his family with all his being.  On July 16, 2016, his daughter Pamela married and Harinder welcomed his wonderful son-in-law, Tyler Bugden to the family.

As a father of four active girls, Harinder helped coach his daughters soccer teams and softball teams – even though he hadn’t read a rule book ever! He also loved watching and cheering the girls on while they played hockey.  He truly lived for his girls!  Harinder took immense pride at being a father and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to the girls or anyone else in need.

Harinder enjoyed traveling with family and friends.  He loved his trips to Mexico (every trip was very memorable), his trips to England to see family – all of whom loved him so very much. He also loved his trip back to India, and traveling to Europe to see some of the famous places in history that he had read and knew of, as he was a history buff.

In 2021, Harinder gained the title of Nanaji with the birth of his granddaughter, Simran Grace Kaur Bugden. He loved talking with Simran on FaceTime, enjoyed eating Cream Of Wheat for breakfast together, and snuggling with her any chance he could get.

Harinder had an unforgettable personality and a world class sense of humor. He had a unique gift of making everyone feel at ease around him and everyone who knew him, loved him. He really was the kindest, sweetest, and most loving human that we had the privilege of calling husband, dad, brother, son, son-in-law, cousin, nephew, uncle, Nanaji and FRIEND!

This is not a goodbye, but a see you later. You will be remembered by all who knew you in their own special way.

You are loved more than you will ever know. Until we meet again, dad. XOXO

Funeral will be held at the St. Edwards Church on Saturday January 13, 2024. Doors will open at 10:00am and the funeral will commence at 11:00. Followed by the Bhog (service) and Langar (lunch) at the Paldi Sikh Temple.
